Huawei. DJI. Yongnuo. Zcam, Kinefinity.
if anyone has seen the video footage coming out of the latest Huawei phone or the Osmo Pocket, it would be an easy conclusion that Japanese camera makers have lost the plot.
Soon Yongnuo will release the YN450 - an interchangeable lens camera that has full Android functionality. Read:Facebook Live, Quik editing, , vertical IGTV etc.
Zcam E2 is doing 10 bit 4K 120fps. Yes 120fps with a deep learning engine that improves autofocus over time.
The secret sauce?
Hardware and software integration.
Japanese weakness in software development was made very evident years ago in their failure to enter the drone market.
Now the Chinese are pulling much further ahead with computational photography and videography. Image processing can do wonders in solving problems of sensor noise, motion stabilisation, and autofocus.
Chinese marketing may not be as sophisticated as their Japanese counterpart, but with growing economic clout, that may soon change.
Cutthroat competition leads to innovation while the camera cartels will just lead to stagnation. Case in point: EOS-R.
Be prepared for a big shake up in 2019.
