2013 Spring Wave Music Festival @ The Meadows, Gardens By The Bay

It has been quite some time since I attend mandro-pop concerts. Springwave music festival AKA 春浪音樂節 is a popular yearly music festival held in 墾丁, Taiwan. Am glad that they decided to bring it overseas and Singapore is the first leg. Although I had terrible nightmares attending free standing outdoor concerts at Gardens By the Bay, but I just decided to take up the challenge against the hot stuffy sweaty local weather as the artistes list consist of several of my favorite singers(Eg: Cheer Chen, Wubai, Joanna Wong and Ah Yue). Also, one plus point is this time round photography is allowed!!! So I took the chance to bring my new new toy combo to practice my gig photography skills

All photos taken with Nikon D800+Nikkor 70-200 F/4 manual setting with fix aperture at F/4, ISO800-1250 and SS of 1/100-1/320. Thanks for viewing. Shall start the ball rolling with my idol's photos first. Will update this thread gradually as I have yet to go through all the photos. It was an 8hr concert!!!! Really very tiring but lucky the crowd was not so hugh as compared to the previous time when I attended Jason Mraz's concert at the same venue.

Those of you who knows me will know I am a big fan of her.. So pardon me for starting off with her first lol.... I have to thank Jam Hsiao's fans for being so considerate and nice to let me and my friend stand right in front at the barricade during her segment! If not, I would probably have to use a tele-convertor and battle against sea of handphone cameras and human heads lol..

Cheer Chen's segment took place during blue hour.
I could have use DX cropped mode on the D800 or Teleconvertor to have more close up shots but I prefer to include more backdrop and ambiance lighting...

The lighting for the gala last song 旅行的意義 was so horrible that I struggled very badly with the setting. Probably I was standing at the wrong side and I got most of her shots in "avatar" style lol.. Wonder what kinda of setting can I use in such harsh bright white lighting? any advise?

Ming Bridges and 白安 during E-awards session. We could have had more time for the real concert performers. but the organizer squeeze in a "not-here-not-there" silly award after Olivia's segment. Lucky we had some pretty decent newcomer singers in this segment.

#28 Ming Bridges - I thought I really like her! Up and coming. She is a "local angmoh".. but she sings in mandarin. Heard that she is currently going through her mandarin training in Taiwan. I hope she can become another Stephanie Sun!

The lighting was very jialat at the aisle extension stage... most of Cheer's and Wubai's shots ended up like Avatars lol...

I am fine!!! How are you???? Havent seem your works for quite some time. Cheer only did 8 songs which was quite short =( ended up now I got serious withdrawal syndrome.. NExt time when she is here for concert we should go together!

Alright... finally finished sorting out all the shots.... here are the rest of the artistes..

Sorry.. for Ah Yue and Joanna Wong, I wasn't really taking much photos as the weather was horrible. And I used the teleconvertor heavily - which was a bad choice as most images turned out crappy and soft.

#33 Joanna Wang. She is good!!! One of a kind cool chick!!! Although her songs were not really main stream and pop.. I loved her segment very much!!!!

#35 Ah Yue - He was the first singer to spice up the crowd!!!! Sang several of his popular songs eg: 愛我別走, 思念是一種病, 愛的初體驗. But his session took quite a long time to setup and thus I suspect his setlist was cut short. quite wasted

Finally last artiste lol...

Jam Hsiao. I have to say, he was the guy who lifted the concert climax to max that night. and he got the largest # of fans. Unfortunately he wasn't my cup of tea. I took a break during his segment and handed my camera to a friend who is his fan. As she was standing really far away(remembered I mentioned that it was Jam's fans who let me went straight right up at the front during Cheer and Wubai's segments). She couldn't get much up close and nicely composed shots - blocked mostly by the fans and LED lights/iphones etc. But lucky the D800 36mpx resolution saved the day. I re-composed and heavily cropped most of Jam's photos. and I have to say I am quite pleased with the end products haha...
