need help......new here.....which is better?:)

some people claim that 18-70mm is better in quality compared to 18-135mm i agree if u want zoom get 18-135mm?

thanks for the help...... any 18-135mm user would like to highlights?

hmmm i only own the 18-70 and its pretty good to me.

it also depends whether u have any lenses after the 70mm range. If u do, then i dont see y u need to get the 18-135 then. also, i suppose u may also wan to get a longer range 70-200, 80-200 sometime soon, so i guess theres no need to spend the extra cash there.

I only used my kit lens briefly when i first bought my D80.
I find it vignettes quite abit at the bigger aperture more often than my other lenses, but it is something that can be PSed easily.

Apart from that, i got no other issues with it. The IQ and stuffs between the 2 i think not easy to detect.

it does matter actually... the extra 71-135mm might save you time for changing lenses...

but.. im just curious, why is the 18-70mm and the 18-135 selling at roughly the same price... there might be a catch as a newbie that i don't noe... any advice?

One has metal mount, the other is plastic mount.

I own both.
Build wise, 18-70 is better.
The plastic mount does make the 18-135 looks a bit cheapo, but then again if you travel, you will appreciate the light weight of it.

Image wise, frankly I can't even tell which picture is from which lens, although sub-consciously I still feel 18-70 is better.

The difference is really the reach.
I brought just the 18-135 for my June Western Australia trip, and it really cover 95% of my needs. 135mm is really sufficient to cover most of the scene.

Attached 2 pics taken with 135mm focal length ( no crop ) :
