Hi Guys,

These 2 lens seems to have similar specs other than the range. For wide angle is the 2mm much of a difference? Is the speed and sharpness of both lens the same?

For me I am thinking of 18-70mm/16-85mm to go with 70-300mm lens when I am out travelling. For me I take a lot of pictures of buildings and busy people walking along the streets. So the only thing for me is the wide angle portion between a 16-85mm and a 18-70mm whether is it a big difference? Need some advise.

On a cropped sensor, the 18mm gives u approximately 64-67 degree horizontally
and the 18mm gives u approx 70-73 degree horizontally. Rough estimate based on a 1.6-1.5x cropped factor.

I would go for the 16-85mm zoom if given a choice.
Of course the other issue to balance would be the cost of a pricey 16-85mm against a cheaper 18-70mm.

Given the choice of these 2 lenses... I will also go for the 16-85 VR lens... :D

If money is not a consideration, go for the 16-85 ;)

Like 18-70mm becoz it is slightly faster..f3.5-4 against f3.5-5.6

Like 16-85mm becoz it come with VR

The 2mm wider really doesn't make much different to me.

Like the rest, if money not an issue, go for 16-85mm. JMHO.;p

the 18-70mm is f3.5-f4.5, even though is one f-stop faster, with no tripod at night, the default shutter speed in A mode could be longer than usual due to the reciprocal rule.

16-85mm vr is a better bet if TS does not want to carry a tripod around while on tour.
