    Question on lens

Yup thanks. Francis kindly answered my question already. I just keep forgetting that the bigger the f number the smaller the aperture and vice versa

    Question on lens

Thanks. So if at 55 I set the camera aperture to 8, the actual aperture (camera plus lens) will be 4 (because the max aperture for the lens is 4)? What if at 55 I set the camera aperture to 2, will the actual aperture (camera plus lens) be 2?

    Question on lens

Hi, I have a EF-S55-250mm f4-5.6 IS Does the "f4-5.6" refer to the aperture? Does this mean that when I am using the lens, I must set the camera's apperture to within the f4-5.6 range? What happens if I set the camera's aperture outside the range? Thanks in advance

    Free tripod

Heavy camera should not shift the CG beyond the base unless the lens is super long and heavy. But good point, perhaps I can try hanging a weighted object (eg camera bag) to lower the tripod's CG and make it more stable.

    Free tripod

Thanks. I also tried the free tripod and although it wasn't very stable, by the fact that it has 3-legs it didn't topple over. If anyone knows of (or heard of) a similar tripod actually toppling over please let me know. I don't want my camera damaged because of a free gift. I thought a...

    Free tripod

When i bought my 450D, the shop gave me a free tripod "Stein Z Eiser MOD:SZ-02". After reading some of the posts in this forum, I understand that a inferior tripod may topple when the wind blows and damage the camera. Can anyone advice if the tripod I was given is of a decent quality, or...

Printing pictures - send in RAW or JPEG?

Hi everyone, I have another stupid question. My shots are saved in the camera as RAW and JPG. After editing, if I want to send my pictures for printing, is it better to print from the RAW file (is this possible?) or the JPG file? Thanks in advance.

Question on Cannon 450D Manual Focus

Wow, thanks. I just bought mine 2 days ago, and am still experimenting with the auto mode + Manual Focus (1 step better than auto mode + auto focus :) ). As you said, I will probably need to experiment abit with the apperture, speed and ISO settings to really understand what to use under...

Question on Cannon 450D Manual Focus

OK, thanks for the clarification So once my subject is in focus I just need to press the shutter button fully and the camera will do the rest (i.e. perform the automatic metering to set aperture and shutter). There is no need for me to press the shutter button to first stage to activate the...

Question on Cannon 450D Manual Focus

I think you got my drift. I am no pro and I leave it to the camera to do the settings for the exposure etc. I only do the focusing manually. My question is after I have finnished focusing manually, can I just shoot or do i need to press the button halfway for the camera to do the...

Question on Cannon 450D Manual Focus

I have a short (and dumb) question which I hope someone can help me with. I am using a Cannon 450D. When I use Auto Focus, I need to press the shooting button halfway to activate the auto focus. The camera will then display all the Apperture / Shutter Speed / ISO settings while the camera is...

Should i go for the 450d or 500d?

Hi All I bought my first DSLR yesterday. I chose the 450D because it was $200 cheaper than the 500D. I used the difference to get an additional 55-250 lens for $459. I did most of my research on this forum before deciding to buy the 450D. Just wanted to thank everyone for your comments.
