Can anyone show two photos of the same location taken with a cheap lens and an expensive lens? That would help newbies like me appreciate the difference in quality that you talk about and whether it is worth investing in. As they say a picture is worth a 1000 words.. ;p anybdy has any such pic?

nope it's not the preflash. I was talkin abt the flash popping up. Anyway as splutter mentioned when usign a DSLR I might as well use the Av, Tv and M modes. I'm a new convert to DSLR, hence the questions (thought there was an equivalent way to supress flash before you take a pic as you can do...

You could eliminate a bit of the left side of the pic for better composition, but the pic is a bit too small to reveal technical details..

that is a separate mode altogether. You cannot automatically cancel flash in night mode. ANyway I guess using the creative modes does not pop up flash. I learnt to get over the 'auto flash pop-up' thing.. ;p

I haven't tried the * setting yet.. Shall test that out. Thnkx pokha.. And yes, it's for nightscapes with no foreground objects.. :)

I'm sorry, yes it doens't pop out in Av mode. My error. But in night mode, I take it for each shot the flash pops up and you have to push it down (with shutter half pressed) to disable flash for that take.

I tried that. I found that I have to keep the shutter pressed half way while lowering the flash. But the next time I take another pic, it pops up again. It's annoying. Or am I doing something wrong?

I bought a Canon EOS 350 D from Comex yesterday. I been reading the manul all day but cannot find a way to disable flash from firing in low light conditions in the Aperture priority mode and Night mode. I am a newbie to SLRs. Is there no way to do this? :dunno:
