I will never ever check in my camera and lens ... especially if I am heading to the US If i have to check in my camera and lens then I rather not go to that destination or simply carry a small cheap camera instead.

I have seen some video of people using vacuum cleaner to suck the dust out ... but if I am you I will contact Fuji to check for the cost. It might not be very expensive to get it serviced if the dust is of concern to you.
