Discovering Egypt: From Pharaohs to Sisi
Egypt has a long and rich history: Pharaohs ruled ancient Egypt for 3 millennia, Ptolemaic (Greek) and Roman for 1 millennia, the Arab and Ottomans for another millennia, then British rule followed by independence in 1953. Recent history is turbulent, and at the helm is President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi.
Embarking on Egypt was a tough decision in 2013; the political situation was sensitive. The reward for any intrepid travellers like myself, is an enchanting Egyptian experience, with little to no crowd. The wealth of historical artefacts is astounding, but it is the people of Egypt that touches the travellers hearts!
This series present images captured from the Sinai, the Nile in Upper Egypt, Libyan desert, Cairo and Alexandria. Dedicated to the people of Egypt is Portraitures from Luxor, an exhibition that accompanies this presentation.
Egypt is filled with surprises, so be invited to join Kim Lau as he shows and tells his encounters and photographic experiences.
Kim Lau profile:
Kim Lau has been photographing Asia since 2005. He recently completed a one- year journey travelling through the countries that made up the four khanates of the Mongol empire the largest contiguous land empire in history.
Kim stumbled upon Egypt during his journey, with primary intentions on learning about the Mamluk Dynasty of Cairo, who was fighting the Mongol Ilkhanate over control of Syria in the 13th century; Egypt was never part of the Mongol empire. This series is a preliminary presentation dedicated to Egypt, which is a small portion of Kims project, so stay tuned for upcoming exhibitions and presentations on Lands from the Mongol Empire.
