Davide Petrucci signs for Cluj

Davide Petrucci has signed for Romanian club CFR 1907 Cluj on a permanent deal after being released from his contract with Manchester United by mutual consent.
The 22-year-old Italian midfielder joined United's Academy from home-town club AS Roma in summer 2008 and was an exciting prospect in the Reds’ junior ranks. However, injuries disrupted his development as he sought to progress through the age groups to the first-team.

He spent time on loan at Peterborough United, Royal Antwerp and Charlton Athletic, but couldn't break into the Reds’ senior side.

Everyone at Manchester United would like to wish Davide well at his new club.

Scholes heralds 'top quality' signings

Paul Scholes believes Louis van Gaal could struggle to fit all of his Manchester United stars into a starting team, though the club legend concedes that is hardly a problem to lose sleep over.

The recently-closed transfer window saw Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao all arrive at Old Trafford to join a squad that already includes the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Juan Mata.

Speaking to MUTV ahead of this Sunday's home match with QPR, an encounter that has the feel of a season opener with so many potential home debuts on offer, Scholes explained how the manager now has everything in place to achieve success this season.

“The calibre of player we have brought in is top quality, like Di Maria and Falcao,” Paul told MUTV. “These are proper players. We just have to find a way of getting them all in the same team, playing well and scoring goals - which we have struggled to do a little bit.

"Defensively we haven't been great either so he needs to sort that out. Then, I'm sure we can be vying for Champions League places.”

Asked if the biggest problem is fitting everyone into a starting XI, Scholes said: “It is yeah, but it's not a bad problem to have.

“Fans have been moaning about the type of players that were at the club and now you can't do that. I think Ed Woodward has done his job brilliantly during this transfer window with some great signings. Now it is over to the manager to sort everything out and make us a good team again.”

Scholes is particularly excited about Di Maria and Falcao, two genuine world stars who can hopefully light up United’s season. Quizzed on what both can offer, the Treble winner is typically clear in his assessment.

“I would like to see Di Maria play wide,” Scholes continued. “Whether van Gaal is going to play with wide players, I'm not too sure, but we saw the other night that he was devastating for Argentina against Germany in wide areas. Whether it is the right or left-hand side, his pace is frightening.

“He can go past players and score goals. That is something we have been missing. I am sure he can play in the central areas as well, but if I was picking him then it would be in the wide areas.

"Falcao’s goalscoring record is brilliant from when he has been at Porto and Atletico Madrid. The goals he has scored have been important, then there is the movement he brings and his experience as well at 28 years of age.

"You just hope his knee is right, I think that will be the main problem. But once he gets going and Di Maria can start creating chances for him then I'm sure we will start scoring goals.”

Mario Gotze puts Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd on alert after admitting move abroad appeals

MARIO GOTZE has put Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United on alert by admitting he wants to play in a foreign league.

The Bayern Munich midfielder was highly coveted during his time at Borussia Dortmund before ultimately opting to remain in the Bundesliga.

But Gotze - who scored the winning goal in the World Cup final - has now revealed he hasn't ruled out playing in the Premier League.

And that could see Arsenal, Chelsea and United go head-to-head in a battle to lure the 22-year-old to the Premier League.

Gotze told Bild: "I am very, very happy to be playing at Bayern, in Germany.

"But I might play for another 14 years, and a move abroad would certainly not be bad.

"A foreign country would also be tempting for someone of my personality, but I have not given it serious thought yet."

Gotze also hit back at suggestions that he is arrogant, saying: "Those who maintain that don't know me. It's not the truth.

"I am a fairly down-to-earth guy who only wants to focus on football and have fun. That's important. But, sadly, the perception from the outside sometimes is different.

Is Mario Gotze coming

And is he hinting that he don't need high big salary? Hmm...

Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal under pressure to finish THIRD after record transfer outlay

MANCHESTER UNITED have set Louis Van Gaal the minimum target of finishing third in the Premier League this season – despite their poor start to the campaign.

And the fact that United are anticipating a drop in revenue of nearly £50m this season, because of their absence from the Champions League, underlines the financial importance of returning to European football's money-spinning top club competition as soon as possible.

United posted record annual £433.2m revenue in their annual financial results yesterday, resulting in a net profit of around £23m for the year, but confirmed they expect a drop to between £385m-£395m next year as the fall-out from David Moyes' disastrous season in charge kicks-in.

And that, as executive vice chairman Ed Woodward confirmed, is based on them finishing in the top three.

"We expect total revenues to be in the region of £385-£395," he said, "On the assumption of third."

But Woodward is convinced United are on the brink of "something special" under Van Gaal despite him still looking for his first win after four League and Cup matches.

He added: "I am confident with Louis Van Gaal as our manager, a clear philosophy and a reinvigorated squad we will get back to challenging for title and the trophy.

"His track record for delivering top level teams speaks for itself. There is a real feeling at the training centre that we are at the start of something special.

"With Louis and the recent signing of some of the world's leading players to further strengthen our squad, we are very excited about the future and believe it's the start of a new chapter in the club's history.

Man Utd News: Klopp to succeed Van Gaal, Arturo Vidal transfer joy, Juan Cuadrado ignored

BORUSSIA DORTMUND boss Jurgen Klopp is Manchester United's perfect candidate to succeed Louis Van Gaal.

The enigmatic German's contract expires in the summer of 2018, and talks over an extension have yet to commence.

Of course any genuine effort to lure Klopp to Old Trafford would entirely depend on how Van Gaal's tenure develops in the coming months.

His predecessor David Moyes was given just ten months to make an impact in Manchester, and clearly shows United bosses aren't afraid of a change in the hierarchy.

Klopp has long been admired for his brand of attacking and dynamic football, and is thought to want to manage in the Premier League one day.

Manchester United representatives will breath a sigh of relief after long-term transfer target Arturo Vidal suffered a recurrence of a knee injury.

As insensitive as it sounds, United were reportedly willing to offer £40m to bring the Chilean to Old Trafford - money that could have been wasted if accepted by Juventus.

The player is set to be assessed by doctors before returning to Italy, and could even have to undergo surgery to finally fix the problem.

Louis Van Gaal never submitted a bid for Fiorentina playmaker Juan Cuadrado.

The impressive Colombian was widely linked with a move to either Manchester United or Barcelona during the summer - but any such transfer failed to materialize.

La Viola executive president Mario Cognini said: "The club always had a firm intention of keeping him.

"Fiorentina never wanted to sell him and, anyway, an official offer for the player was never made to us from any club."

Van Gaal replacement?

Mats Hummels makes astonishing revelation concerning Man Utd move

GERMANY star Mats Hummels has ruled out a move to Manchester United after pledging his future to Borussia Dortmund.

The powerful centre-back was linked with a summer switch to the Red Devils, with Louis Van Gaal failing with a £20million offer.

Despite being named as Dortmund captain, Hummels has still been linked with a move to Old Trafford, whilst Barcelona are also believed to be interested.

However, the 25-year-old remains adamant that he is committed to the Bundesliga side, and intends to see out his contract which expires in 2017 after revealing that he opted against having a release clause in the deal penned two years ago.

Hummels said: "I wanted to set an example with the extension I signed and it will run for five years until 2017."

The highly-rated defender also revealed that he could easily have remained at old club Bayern Munich if they hadn't made him feel unwanted, adding: "If Bayern had not bought Breno in 2007 for €12million [£9.6m], I would not have left, but that's the way football is sometimes.

"I was practically forced towards happiness. It was the best thing that could have happened to me."

set good example!?!

Think Jones is out injured after international game...

Van Gaal: Injury situation no better

Louis van Gaal has revealed to MUTV that Phil Jones and Ashley Young could both miss Manchester United's clash with QPR on Sunday.

Jones looked a major doubt after hurting his hamstring during England's 2-0 win at Switzerland in midweek. The centre-back has been in excellent form this season and his absence is a blow, although new signing Marcos Rojo is available and could be a ready-made replacement. Young, meanwhile, has suffered an injury in training and is also likely to be missing from the squad.

Van Gaal told MUTV: "The situation has not improved much because while there are players coming back, there are also players who have got injured in the last week like, for example, Phil Jones and Ashley Young. So it's more or less the same situation and that’s not a very positive one."

On the plus side, Ander Herrera and Rafael both came through a behind-closed-doors game unscathed and should be in contention for a return.

"I think they [Herrera and Shaw] are fit enough to play," the manager confirmed. "There is always a risk when you bring players back in their first game after injury. Therefore, we let them play in a game for the Reserves against Bury and they played 60 minutes and they played well. I think they can play now."

Van Gaal's exclusive interview with MUTV, which also includes his thoughts on Danny Welbeck's exit and other matters, will be shown as part of The Manager’s Press Conference show at 15:00, 18:30 and 22:30 BST. For details on how to subscribe, visit manutd.com/joinmutv.
