Guys,

i have a used Nikon D90 with kit lens 18-105, and sadly it has quite a bit of fungus/mold on the lens and image sensor/lcd screen/ view finder.

have checked with Alex @ penisular and mentioned cleaning these will cost around 150
is there any shops in sgp who buys in used cam at good price?

appreciate ur advises...thank u very much..

I won't bother spending the money to clean the 18-105 since you won't be able to salvage much after factoring the cleaning costs. Plus any one or shops buying the lens can tell pretty easily if lens has been cleaned before.

thanks trd2970, so what shld i do with this whole set? any good shops to recommend to sell these?

If you sell it will only be scrap value.

If you intend to use it again, get it cleaned. $150 sounds reasonable.
Try pm fatigue, he may be able to help you to clean up the set.

Just go to peninsular shopping centre. Many 2nd hand camera shops there. But do not get a heart attack what they will offer for your camera.

Just note that a decent D90 with 18-105 is selling at around $400. Yours with fungus all over from the lens to the camera body, I wouldn't want to buy the set even at $200.

Whatever u do, just make sure u dont try to sell it off as good condition to some ignorant buyer.

Just ask a few shops at peninsula basement, get a few quotes.

If the overall price is too low (after factoring in cleaning costs), why don't you donate it to schools?

might as well keep it after send for cleaning. just ensure it is stored in the correct place again.

my bro's d5100 sensor has fungus, sent to nikon. they helped to clean at no cost. but need to change the sensor as it still have some fungus mark after cleaning.

you might want to try sending to NSC to see if they could help to clean. just say the image is dirty, see if they can help.

Welcome to ClubSNAP.

agree with the suggestion here, if you don't intent to keep it, just sell it off at a dirt cheap price, try to understand the 2nd hand shops also need to make a profit, so very unlikely will offer you a good price for taking in your fungus infested camera.

It all depends on the location of fungus.
For the camera, if the fungus is just outside the sensor filter, no dismantling required. It shouldn't cost a lot to clean
For the lens, if the fungus is located at the front part of the optics, it's an easy job. But if the fungus is located at the middle optics, or inside the rear optics, it's a complicated job, the rear element of the lens requires alignment to reassemble.
