[ News ] GX7 is available for sale in Singapore

Picked up the GX7 kit from J316 and I'm a happy camper!

Ah...probably so. I did not disable the stabiliser.
Hmm but come to think of it I did not do so for the E-M5 too when I did the 1 min exposure.
:dunno:

looking at the photo u sent, 1st point i agree on is that it wasn't sharp on focus but I'm not sure whether this is due to not focused when shooting or the smudging issue with GX7 sensor in high ISO as reported by some reviews.

The 2nd point is that noise was excessive, i agree. Prob u can try again? no matter what, my view is a 5 sec exposure definitely shouldn't generate so much noise and that from what u said, its obvious u are clear about the settings and how to handle a proper exposure shot. I tried out of curiosity and shot a 30s exposure on the D-Lux 6 (way way smaller sensor) and noise level was definitely much lower than what u showed in comparison.

OMG, the GX7 is awesome! Put aside all the technicalities, it's a really user friendly camera. I admit the EVF sensors was so sensitive, it irritated me once or twice then you get used to it. The switch between live view and EVF isn't as slow as some describes it to be. I've got random tourists use that camera to take a photos of me and they all go like "wow, nice camera" when they get to see the playback of the pictures they took.

I don't know if it's my hands but my pictures were so much clearer with the 20mm as compared to when the 7-14mm is on. I'm not a professional nor am I very good with it so maybe it's user problem.

Feels great when you love you camera right? Be it hp, compact, mirrorless or FF :D

yes! Something that makes me excited about. I wasn't even half as excited when I got my 60D.

hello, i am going to buy the gx7 and was thinking what is a good "all rounded" lens to get for it? Be it, landscape, portraits, sports etc... Waiting for you experts advices!

ALSO,

i was quoted $1450 for the bundle.. is it a good price or I can get lower!

12-35mm if u r just gonna buy 1 and only 1 lens. More of compromises here and there for most value in 1 package.

Landscape : 24 mm is considered wide & this lens is sharp.
Portraits : f2.8 , 70mm. Good bokeh.
Sports : u've f2.8 ,good enough for me.

2x teleconverter gives u 140mm range if u really need it & u get versatility with zoom.

But ... Big BUT :
Landscape : 9-18 or 7-14 , 12/2
Portraits : 45/1.8, 25/1.4
Sports : 75mm (drools)
Street/ compact : 17/1.8 , 14/2.5 , 20/1.7

If u've the budget :)
And I'm sure there must be other very lenses I missed out too so pls share them.

thanks keith, thats was a very detailed reply, but am tight on budget thats why good lenses gotta wait.. why 12-35mm and not the 14-42mm that alot of product reviewers have been using them.

I was quoted $1399 for the bundle at HN, you probably can negotiate for lower if you add in extra lense for the total package. Let us know the final outcome. I'm still waiting for body only or with kit zoom bundle.

Panny sg marketing better wake up and offer these options or people will go for the many alternative systems that are competing aggressively!

Everybody else please share your price quotes... knowledge is power!

You mean a zoom kit bundle will be coming out instead? I rather a zoom lens than a prime.

The 14-42 is a kit lens from f3.5 to f5.6 , not really suitable for sports unless u r referring to sports like chess ;)
I've shot wushu , table tennis and basketball with the 12-35.

If u r into kit lenses , I will only recommend the Pana 14-45 and nothing else. Old lens but AF speed is fast and it way beats the other kit lens in sharpness.

If new to the system , will be good try the kit lenses first :) money hard to earn

The zoom kit bundle is out in US market , and even cheaper than the 20/1.7 kit

Oo okay ty bllimus for the info =)

Was just thinking if I was to go to HN and ask to change the current bundled len (20mm/f1.7ii) to a 12-35mm lens with $$ top-up, do you think its possible? Haha

Btw, how much is a 12-35mm len now. Should I buy 2nd hand len instead?

In Australia, the kit zoom 24-42mm II and 25mm 1.4 lens bundles are being offered but not yet in Sg. No news yet if these bundles will ever be offered in Sg. We can only hope they offer these quickly before I change my mind and get something else(This is my feedback to panasonic --if they are listening).

Personally, I would like to try out the more affordable lenses like the 24-42mm II, the 45-150mm or even the coming pancake zoom of 12-32mm (with GM1) before venturing out to try the more expensive ones...

Actually nowadays with better and better software "corrections" you only need "OK" lens to get super image quality of the very expensive lenses... see or read this article:

Can computer corrections make simple lenses look good?
