I like the clean and sharp look of this pic. May I know how u take? Are there any filter/bracketing/post process/hdr involved?

Hi, thanks for the appreciation. I was looking for a composition which in my memory is not taken before and coincidentally this is the area with the least lotus. It helps with the reflection and the water is still so this was what I chose to shoot. There are two parts to this framing, one being the reflection of the base structure of the ASM, the other being the curve leading into the skyline of CBD buildings in the background and in the midground of course, there is a coincidental addition of human elements. Personally, I feel it wouldn't be as meaningful if the entire frame is only devoted to ASM and the reflection.

In terms of processing, this was a single shot and tone adjusted by Nik Color Efex. Nowadays, I use less of Curves, unless I want rather precise adjustment. Even with the large DR of the K5, I still find myself using exposure blending but this exposure suffice. In my facebook page, I actually shared the before and after of this shot, basically I felt that the processing brought out some shadow and highlight details and a bit of tonality in the sky. As the editing in Nik was rather automated, I consider this as rather minimal processing. I remember using polariser as it seems to bring out the reflection better, and some pro contrast adjustment. I cleaned up some parts of the water as well with some cloning then I use "smart sharpen" in CS6 setting to 95% amount and 0.5 radius and check the more accurate box and that was about it.

No I didn't use filter because it was getting late already and that day there were a lot of grey tones in the sky, so I wasn't going to kill the tonality further, although I do have GND and ND filters with me that day. As well because of the timing, I didn't use ND because it wasn't at all necessary to prolong the exposure further than 8s (which was longer than I'd have wanted anyway, since I wanted to retain the human element in this shot). Bracketing is done when you need multiple exposures for HDR or DRI techniques, but even though I presented a single exposure shot, I did bracket my shots and IIRC was -2, -1, 0, +1, +2 EVs. I normally do bracketing, just in case it turns out that I need to do blending and if I chose to present single exposure, I just take one of the shot and process so no loss. I don't do HDR nowadays, other than a couple of months back I used HDR for fun once.

Hope I've answered most of your queries and hope that helps!

yea! You could have benefited from edutilos' sharing!

*edit* I forgot to mention that I did a desaturation of the blue and cyan hues to get a more gentle and soft feel.

Very nice series of birding... Like the creamy background. It is almost like Art Painting. :)

Taken with K-r and FA50/1.4 at Changi Beach Boardwalk. Can anyone help ID this flower commonly seen on public fences?

Not an expert, still more to learn and to refine. I'm just passing on what i've learned from others and hope more people will shoot landscapes for my viewing pleasure :)

Thanks bro, the credit goes to the camera. :)

The camera and the lens are just a constant. its the man behind the tools that produces the beautiful shot.

Congrates Ken.

Was happy when I read this, I thought I could blame my crappy photos on the equipment.

Ken equipment can only do so much the rest is your skill

Then the answers from Marcus and Toh brought be down again,,,,I was still the root cause for the lousy shots...ha ha

There is only one way to solve that problem. Shoot more photos, your skill will get better. That is how most of use improve our skill lol.
Also to join more pentax outting
