I bought a DK-19 but it appeared flimsy and unsecured. Every abrasion makes it drops out. Eventually i lost it.

Has anyone met similar problems? I am hesitant in buying another one if it is of such design. Any alternatives?

I have 2 DK-19s and they are tight as hell and super secure. Did you install it properly?

See this video and watch how it is supposed to be install. That retaining ring that came with the eyecup need to be pressed firmly into place.

Nikon DK-19 Rubber Eyecup 4787 B&H Photo Video

Damn... it's $30 or something per piece from Nikon SG... (ok, I may have remembered it wrongly... but certainly not US$8, I think).

Yes, proper installation very important. I torn one already :(

Thanks! Especially for the video.

1) The one i bought on ebay (from a HK, China supplier) comes without a locking ring.

2) The rubber was softer and more malleable . Hence even with the locking ring, it may just bend out of the locking ring.

I have written to the seller of ebay. I doubt he will compensate.

Can anyone share any good contacts? Thanks.

I brought mine from Gmarket $3.

Is it that fragile? I found it to be very tough... pull here and there and no tears whatsoever... You must be very strong.

BTW, Nikon SG sells the DK-19 for $13...

The ones I have I bought in singapore, and the rubber is actually quite strong and it takes some strength to squeeze the round glass into the DK-19.. Once the retaining ring goes in, the eyecup is not going anywhere.

Are you sure the one you got is orginal Nikon and not a knockoff?

I have 2 DK-19 too, it's so "locked" that it's really locked there and the rubber material doesn't seem like it's gonna get torn easily.

One of mine finally got a small little crack after 2 years of constant use.

Is it cos the rubber starts to dry?

I noticed that for mine, one is harder than the other. The harder one is about 2 years while the softer one is 1 year.

Not that... I move the camera in and out of bags so much.. I think one occasion it caught on something and cracked a bit

I see.. but did you notice that it gets harder over the years or?

I'm just having a conjecture that drying rubber was the reason of the difference in hardness of my 2 DK-17. Both are Nikon original, not knock off.

I got mine from Amazon. I had the DK19 and also the DK-17M.

No issue at all after using for 1 year plus.

:)

Haha... Mine was a knock off. I already mentioned in the start i bought it on ebay. So, this serves as a warning for buyers for the eye cup. Thanks for the link. I think i paid close to SGD 10 for the knock off so it wasnt really worth it. From your kind leads, i am gg down to Nikon SG to get an original one. haha! :bsmilie:
