Cufflinks Shoot - Please read the requirements

He/she might not need ? What one doesn't want for whatever reason(s) doesn't mean it will be the same for others.
As such the perception of "value" differs.
E.g. I see this assignment as an opportunity for my portfolio, the lack of $$$ becomes and investment at my end.
I vaguely recall someone indicated that one has to do the same stuffs repeatedly to be good at it. If so, one
really have to start somewhere.
kklee -There is a thing called self assignment. To learn to handle bright shiny object well you do have forks, spoons, metal bowls at home yah ? If not they are cheap less than 10 buck buys some test subjects. Pandering cheapos like TS is not the way to go if you real love photography. This self assignment is actually harder than doing these cufflinks - answer the question "how do you make common place object look better than they are; make it dramatic have impact". When you can do that with simple items, pretty stuff is easy. It is like how photographers who know do not shoot XMMer as they never learn more than just doing what is fundamentally a snap shot. Most XMM are actually not really good looking photography subjects - just look at the forum.
You wanna be an expert go spend 10,000 hours covering one subject. wait for "clients from planet cheap" to move u along is like wait long long. Got no drive, do not how to make your own roadmap maybe you can reach half way point in 10 years. Willing to do a CLANG ? Work for free full time for 2 to 3 years ? Did not think so.

I don't see why the love of photography needs a standard.
I can don't like self assignment and don't like taking home objects.

FYI, basically all my stock photos are generated from self assignments, I own the photos and I can sell it again and again.
TS here is seek custom photos which photographers can't use if for any other purpose beside portfolio, and he can stop you for using it for your portfolio if he want to, don't forget he will own the rights of the photos by default, and he is only willing pay up to $1.99 per photo.

If you re-look at the set of photos the TS posted, the cuff links seems to, specifically, have to show front / front and front back.
If I am the TS, I would want specific rather than "how do you make common place object look better than they are make it dramatic have impact" .
I don't comment on why he don't choose the previous photographer and whether he want it cheaper.
I am merely saying that he can source to have it done on his own terms.
I think one should evaluate photographic opportunities from every source including self-assigned ones.

This is not an ideal world, people makes it complicated - manage it.

This is not a goondus world, it's people like TS that makes it so - FACE it.
And judging from your replies in this thread, you sounds like you know quite well about TS actual requirements and most probably you are the one who took up this pathetic job. Good luck.
kklee, just look at the TS's requirement and the sample photo he posted, can anyone say that base on the sample photo TS is not looking for more than $2/- standard? or is it your opinion that the sample photo is worth only $2/-?
