Wow! Leica-mount Pentax lens!

i'm curious. for a leica user, what did you like and what didn't you like about the FA43Ltd?

Nothing really to hate about the lens. 43mm meant I had to frame pictures more carefully as the framelines were either the 35 or the 50 depending on the adapter used. It was a modern look like any other lens and not your typical RF design. Sold them as I needed to thin the number of lenses that I had.

Some old photos:

Leica never asked Pentax to make a lens for leica.

In 1990-2000, a lot of "characteristic" lens has a lecia version, like Ricoh GR28, GR21. .

Nothing against anybody. Just want to share some facts.

Like to bring this up again ... just sharing.

True fact. Leica doesn't need anyone to make lenses for them coz they make d best there is. Period.

why longer than K mount ah? thought M mount shorter flange distance the lens design suppose to make RF lens very very small... if Ricoh come out with a K mount module are you gonna buy 1 in K mount ? :bsmilie:

So sexy! hope gxr will come out with ff m mount module asap!

Yes, FF GXR M will be ideal. I think the lens design is different from the DSLR one. It came after the success of the 43 debut in Pentax line up.

Got a cheap k-01 as my K-mount module. ;-) too many 40ish lenses ... Don't think I need another!

Nice set up. You found the lens locally or oversea? I gave up trying to find one...:bsmilie:

Des, there's bound to be collectors in Singapore. I'm still thinking if I can pinch it off him. It's not officially mine yet!

Should be artisan&artist silk ;)

Yes, A&A Silk strap. Hey, that doesn't help us take better pictures.

Come on ... I can hardly see the difference between a shot taken by the FLE and a Pentax 31mm when it's presented on a screen with a 800px photo. :p

Anyways, this thread isn't about Leica versus other makes. It's about the 1 and only leica screw mount from Pentax, a special 43mm! ;-)

I refrained myself from saying something ruder. :D

Blanket statements like those, often come from those who have never experienced the other makes/brands and can't appreciate that a lot is just preference and lens design trade-offs.
Of course, when one has paid so much more for their stuff, it always feels good to think there is no equal.

Pentax has always been a SLR maker. They never ventured into RF cameras.
So the 43 ltd in m-mount is a unique lens coming from a company who has no RF line. (unlike Ricoh, which was mention as an example that other brands made lenses for m-mount).
Whether the truth was that Leica asked Pentax to make a version of the lens in m-mount, only the management of that time will know.
I'd tend to believe it based on knowledgeable older folks who were active photographers during that time and what I mentioned above.

Yes, that's what their fans tend to say, just like how "XXX soccer team is the best there is".

I love how people like to justify their purchases (notice that you announce a list of lenses in your signature like boy scout badges). Of course Leica lenses are decent. But worth the money? Nahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Not to me. If I can get the job done with a "piss-poor cheapskate Tamron 10-24 and Pentax K5" which doesn't have any of that "Leica glow" and be happy with my hobby and make the pictures I want to make, who cares who makes what for whoever or what is best or worse? Photography is MY hobby, gear is just a set of tools and means to create pictures. When you start emphasizing the latter, then the hobby becomes less photography and more gear-collection. Which is fine. But be prepared to have people disagreeing with you. :bsmilie:
