How much did you invest in your photographic equipment ? How much do those thirsty hippo cost ?
A normal 30 litre dry cabinet cost about $130 approx. you can get cheaper ones. I think in the long run, it is cheaper to invest in a dry cabinet, rather than being penny wise pound foolish.
watch out the hippo making the air too dry. too humid not good for lenses, prism... too dry not good for the rubber, plastic parts. electronic auto dry cabinet is still better.
If you use thirsty hippo, it can be difficult to control the humidity level. Save yourself the trouble and in the long run a dry cabinet is more cost effective
same here, i started with dry box also, but not the hippo one's, i used silica gel,
but accessibility and i keep changing gels in time when my shooting outings got very often...
dry cabinet is advisable but drybox is not bad, but hippo in a box for me is risky where u can't monitor the humidity...
I bought a dry box been using for almost 1 year now.
I did not bother changing those gels. In fact the color now is as pink as lipstick!
However, i gathered all the silica from the boxes of those appliances that we purchased. I even gathered all from my friends. Then spread out the pouches of silicas under the dry box foam. So far the humid is holding.
My cousin also did the same as you did and seems ok and he had been doing that for about coming to 2 years already, I think more concern is it will dries up your rubber.
you money to spend on your camera gear and no money to maintaine it.Yet,you want to save money to get cheap things for your camera to prevent from getting furgurs. Then you've to prepare to send for service and its not cheap.
Hi all, if the issue of drybox is overdrying of rubber parts, can I then say its ok to have a drybox setup if your camera system have hardly any rubber parts? E.g Sony NEX?
