Well not a new rumour, IIRC, there was a rumour similar to this earlier.

Pentax 12-24mm f/3.5-4.5 lens patent | Photo Rumors

One can only hope its a WR lens. Don't think I'll need a f2.8 for a wide angle, just a solid performer, tough and quiet lens with dc motors. I would like it to have sdm but that will probably make the price go sky high.

Can use on future FF? If it is for FF, will it be as good as Sigma 8-16mm on APS-C?

Can someone please explain why they'd want to remake a lens they already have, instead of expanding their lens range, like a 10-20/10-24/8-20mm???

I think we all know how good the 12-24mm f4 was, albeit its biggest bug-bear was its CA control and distortion. Well looking at the patent drawing, 15 elements in 12 groups with 3 asp and 3 ed elements compared to the older lens with 13 elements, 11 groups with 2 asp and 1 ed elements , and longer and bigger than the current 12-24mm f4. The new lens might be design to correct the current flaws. Furthermore the older 12-24 f4 was co-designed with Tokina, maybe they just want to step away from any affiliate of Hoya as well?

In regards to the lens design of the da 12-24 f4, I saw some conflicting info, Photozone states it as 15 elements and 12 group whereas bdimitrov has it as 13 elements,11 groups. In this case I followed bdimitrov.

Me? Like I said I want a WR feature, where I go hiking, I tend to get drenched.

If optical quality was as good as the current 12-24 then i'd trade mine in and buy a new one just cos of WR alone.

I think Pentax is gonna build this one considering i haven't seen many 12-24 available new online these days from B&H or Adorama. No new stock must be coming out...

If they make it WR I may just give up 10mm on my sigma to get it. Haha

Hi rumour, any idea when it would be released ?
Should I hold back purchasing Pentax DA 12-24mm lens first ?

Love my 12-24. But I do wish it was 10-24 F4. I think it will be great. WR is a good to have but not necessary.

Also hope the quality control tighten up as well.
