:bsmilie:

he's that cheap huh. :bsmilie:

Bluff you one lah.
The photog EE probably has many mint gold Leicas that he did not show you.
The photo of the Leica M3 is obviously photoshopped to show fake brassing (but very poorly done).
If you are a seasoned photog you will know that is not the way or pattern of brassing on a typical camera due to daily wear and tear.
The leather on the camera looks too good to be true. It is not worn at all when the camera is heavily brassed.

You can replace the leather part? :dunno:

I think nowadays very difficult for a camera to reach such a state. Now every 18-24 months or less we upgrade to a new camera. Furthermore we try to keep it mint in case we want to sell it at BnS.

Make sure your camera is WELL USED AND ABUSED, pushed to the limits and beyond.

Just like this guy's camera;

I wouldnt really say abused but a very well used & well brassed black paint Leica M3.

If its an original black paint M3, its worth more than 10k for body alone even with the current condition.

Unfortunately you are very wrong my friend. If that is the original black paint M3 with the original black paint 50mm summilux, its worth a fortune. Despite the brassings & all, many are willing to pay big money for original black paints.

My M3 has been operating for the last 50 years, no upgrade, just leather change & some CLA.

Most photographers respect their equipment and wish to take good care of their cameras.

In modern day photo shoots, in peace time, there is seldom any need to thrash the camera around. The exception is war time when one is a war correspondent. You may have to dive to the rocky ground camera in hand when there is an incoming mortar shell.

Also, the photographer has to respect the occasion and his client. For example, if he was commissioned by Royalty to take photos in a special event then it is not right to turn up with a beat up camera. This even applies to wedding shoots for ordinary clients.

You may be able to get good photos even if you use a beat up camera. The converse is not true. It does not mean just because you use a beat up camera - that you are automatically a good photographer and the photos you take will be good. It is a false impression that such a person cares more for the shot than about his camera. A beat up brassed camera does not mean that you have credibility as a photographer.

However this silliness is not confined to photography. Jeans manufacturers purposely age their new jeans and make holes or tears in them. Some jeans buyers are willing to pay more for such torn jeans.

The said photo of the so-called EE's M3 has been circulating in the Internet for some time. Others have stated their doubts about the brassing.
Be aware that EE from Magnum would be VERY rich and can afford many new Leicas, even the gold ones.
