Be a fisherman and not a fish. I never like to join any competition. why make yourself so disgusting over the matter,it is happening everywhere in the world.

This is what I see, 1,200 picture submitted. The organizer bank in $12,000 and 1,200 copyright of the pictures.
At the end, simply put up (may be self submitted) a pic taken in Nepal for the competition supposed for picture taken in SG.

That tends to be the case for many competitions... Which is why one should always take note of the T&C for each competition.

Don't think it's fair to insinuate kelong until there is concrete proof.

Latest update:

" PhotoQuest Grand Prize Winner

Since we did not directly communicate that photos outside of Singapore would be allowed for the extension of PhotoQuest, we will honor the original Guidelines of the competition and disqualify all photos that do not meet both the Guidelines and Rules & Regulations provided at the start.

Rest assured, our intention is to make things right and fair for all of the participants. A new winner will be announced shortly once we have made all the necessary validations. "

they better understand that if they lost our trust.
there will be less participants in future. having less participants meaning their event are less attractive to sponsors.

This issue will haunt them for the next few years!

Oversea or local... I am quite surprise that they choose a photo that still have a "religious" theme to it, after, all the judges unanimously voiced out asking if there is any photo that can move away from religion and still able to capture something that represent asia during the open judging.

My take. I won't want to loss sleep nor appetite over such things. Photography is a hobby and a passion for me.

just chill :)
while they can select our photos to decide who is their winner based on their criteria, we can select which photo competition to participate.

ps. I don't think they might have less submission because of this as the top prize is really attractive.

pps. we might want to look at ourselves as well..... maybe none of the submission of locally taken photo is that outstanding. Strangely, having most of the major asian races in Singapore and we still can't find something that works and generically says "Asia".... strongly....

ppps. Maybe time and location is something that is not easy to overcome. Just look at the Photo+Video Challenge 2011. All the finalist photos, I would say.... top notch and the winner deservedly choosen.

The organizer announced on their facebook page that they will change the winner and respect the rules, it's a very respectable decision unlike other organizers, and they also noted that ONLY the winning pictures can be used by them and sponsor and they deny the ownership nor photo bank for other entries

Are you doing a major in Geography?

Once upon a time in ice age Singapore and Nepal were joined together in one land mass. We were close neighbours. :bsmilie:

how did u achieve this ability to say something with a serious note n yet make mr think that u sian-ed those up?

I thought the 2nd and 3rd consolation was cool, but i like the eye..

the photo of the eye was pretty cool and creative :)

Agree. That photo looked unprocessed; given a bit of post-processing it should stand out. Then again, the T&C says no post-processing allowed. =))

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by self-submit, but I took that to mean that someone linked to the organization (self) submitted the picture, and the judges let that person win. If that's not what you meant, then I apologise for misconstruing the meaning.

Anyways, maybe a good way of describing it is that they did not adhere to their promised rules/regulations/requirements. That much seems clear enough to me from the facts presented.

but its a matter of integrity no? they collected 10 bucks for submission, and extended the period too. its bullshit really. anyways, learned enough to avoid any competition with a pss from sg in it. I have enough bad experiencs with sg psses

Back in the old days of organized photography salon competitions it's always their same circle of winners bagging
all the prizes year in year out. I tried one submission but was not placed eventually submitted the same to PSA salon in US and got an Honourable Mention. Can't blame you for the psses.

That means the local standard is higher than US one. :bsmilie:

how come it wasn't one of the consolation winners who got bumped up but a completely new photo, and so how did the judges come to a vote so fast.
