35L 1.4 or 50L 1.2???Which will be more of a everyday lens?

I will vote for 35mm F/1.4 as compare to 24mm & 50mm F/1.4

Are they going to update the 35L anytime soon ?

Other than weather seal, is there anything about the 35L that you think needs upgrading?

50 F1.4?

I just bought the 50L and I'm actually quite impressed by it, even compared to the 35L.

i still find 50mm focal length too tight for me, was out shooting at JB with some CS friends yesterday and at times wished i brought along a 35mm for a wider shot to capture the environment... lol guess i am still very much a 35mm person.

Just look at the bokeh of the 50L. ;)

To me, the main advantage of the 35L is its close minimum focusing distance. Bokeh wise ... well, I can't decide which I prefer I find both to be appealing. But its not that frequent that you can exploit this for a meaningfully composed shot. In fact, its pretty hard especially for impromptu shots.

The 35L is more of a half/full body lens. If you try to take head shots, the face will probably end up a bit distorted and unflattering.
The 50L can accomodate just the face/head and blur out everything else.

I used to like 50mm as walk about, that was when I was heavily using the telerange, such as 70-300mm
But when I start to use UWA, I got poisoned with 35mm :bsmilie:

Not sure who every body is talking to, as this thread is about a year old, but I like to use my Nikon mt Voigtlander 40mm F2 mounted on my 5D for most everyday shooting...(to continue in MF...I throw a Voigtlander 20m, and a Nikon 102 f2.5 in my pocket as well)...All in Nikon mount of course but I have them all mounted in EOS adapters, ready to go...;)

And if I really do need the shallow depth of field, Than my Nikon 50 f1.2 goes along for the ride as well...

I only have one prime, so oh well...

Same here, 50mm. with a alternative lighter version, 40mm f2.8 now :D

For me i don't justify the need for a 40mm since i have a 50mm. But then again, it's subjective.
