That is true my friend. Do you think it will drop further? Actually, not really important as it is very much affordable now, compared to the other brands in the market.
I have been described and advised to start off with this camera as i don't care about batter grips, i don't care what people say about pentax, i don't give 2 hoots about swivel screen, i just need a good entry level DSLR.
Disadvantages:
1. you need to know where to hunt its accessories, not easily accessible.
2. ignorant people will always ask "why pentax"?
3. ignorant people will usually "look down" on your camera
4. ignorant people will go scratching their head and ask eee... what is Pentax?
5. K-r don't have battery/vertical grip
6. K-r is not a good video recording camera compared to 550D/600D but hey, your DSLR is for you to shoot photos if you want movie, go for a video cam instead.
7. unable to tilt and swivel screen
8. not "branded" due to the lack of "marketing" on buses, posters, advert and so on and so forth... (btw, is consumers that absorb the prices for such things so do take note)
advantages:
1. you save more $ from buying nonsense stuffs/accessories.
2. don't have to know whether a lens supports IS/AF or etc - just buy, attached and shoot.
3. Good control over high ISO noise reduction unlike competitors for lower-entry camera
4. lens & body are usually cheaper compared to the "marketing" family.
5. Pentax K-r is an upper-entry DSLR for a sub $1000 camera + lens.
6. Option to use AA batteries (with optional adapter)
7. 6.0 frames per seconds
8. Monthly outing organized at Clubsnap for you to tag along, learn to use your camera at its fullest.
9. Digital Filters (550D, D5100 doesn't have it)

Tempted to 'downgrade' to the K-r just for the better high ISO feature alone.. I can sell my K-7 for around the same price. But I can't bear to give up the much nicer feel of the K-7! (Handled a K-x for a while before, so I know how the K-r is probably like.)

and KR (black) body only is going for only $600!!!

I try to scroll and apparently it doesn't work.. ZzZzz~ Tried to scroll up and down my shutter speed setting and it went bonkers.. Like scroll left, nothing happens, sometimes will increase shutter speed.. Shouldn't it be the other way round?

turn the dial continuously forward, then backward a few times. sometimes, the mechanical contact's a bit stiff cos its new and it causes this sort of crankiness.

Ooh, another thing, is it just me or is it normal that there seems to be something that's "loose" in the body? As in, when I turn the body upside down, I can feel and even hear something inside moving.. Turning it the proper way up again will produce the same result too.. Is this normal?
EDIT: Googled up for solutions and apparently both problems have been prevalent in all models.. Haha! Oh well... But how long must I keep turning this dial? 2 hours at it and still the same.. Very erratic jump in values.. :/

if really cannot, just bring it back to SLRR. always a bummer when a new camera screws up. send it back to get some peace of mind and move on with a new set.

i would just get the black ones... most lenses are black in colour anyway. easier to match.

most prob that's how it's gonna end up i guess ... i'm guessing the most we could get out of a 2nd hand kx is just below 300 ? lets hope k5 price move downwards as well
i suppose for many products, its usually more expensive when newer... well i don't expect a substantial drop in K-5 prices until a new replacement is imminent... now around $1500 for body right?

3) work out an arrangement mutually acceptable to you and them. they could bring in another white set for you, they could exchange for a different colour set for you, u could top up and get a K5 instead

Yea... I am feeling sad about it.. So far this is the first camera that has problem which drastically affects its performance. Haha~ Very sad la...
