Hi, a lady friend need a camera that able to do manual and digital like the G12 or S95, budget bellow $1000. Purpose is to take landscape and good nite shot. Is the Olypmus Pen EPL 2 ($689) good? Thanks.

It is as good as it gets. I mean, all cameras are the same... they produce very good image quality and they basically did what they are build for. There are of course other mirrorless camera brands out there (not sure about their price) which are just as good...
The problem with Olympus and Panasonic offering was that they are using the smaller m4/3 sensor which of course couldn't handle noise as well as the bigger APS-C sensor. But in my opinion, unless you are pixel peeking, they don't really make much of a different and since your friend will be taking landscape photography, she would still use low ISO couple with slow shutter speed... since landscape don't move.
