aiyo, i type wrongly. its EF 28-135mm cause i recalled someone mentioned 70-200 here. now my mind is all the 28/70/135/200.......

Get the EF24-70mm f2.8L! That is a great lens or should I say, the best walkabout Canon lens? hehehe.

Actually there is a 28-75mm lens. The tamron 28-75mm lens it is pretty good and not that expensive too. But I would not touch any of those lens... too heavy...

Aiyah... just get the Canon 28mm f2.8 or the Sigma's 30mm f1.4, then you are all set for street photography. I like to get close when doing streets so no need to actually get anything longer than a 50mm... and like I say... 28mm f2.8 is very very light - 165g... almost don't feel the weigh too much.

Get the 24-70mm (almost 1kg in weigh), my old back will kena break pretty soon...

Normal snatch thieve still ok but those motorbike snatch thieves are quite bad.

When I travel, yea, I got all my gear in my bag, the moment I get to the hotel, change to a smaller bag, one camera, 2 lens, one compact & space for a flask with some whiskey in it

In whatever endeavor (ie. other hobbies), always the same 'pattern'
"always brimming with gadgets and gizmos"
"ah siew" "buah-siew" I don't know.
Was once on a shared bus to a triathlon event.
The S'poreans were the typical ones decked in Rudy-project shades, compression tights and talking all the way about the latest 2010 bikes and shoes.
The ang-mos (sorry not politically correct) in simple, worn out t-shirts, mainly kept to themselves and talked about hard runs, interval training, long runs, long intervals.

On the return trip, the ang-mos were the ones with the 2.30hr and below timings :embrass:
There were a few S'poreans with great timings too of course.


Even scale modeling is the same.:bigeyes:
S'poreans talk about latest scale models, best 000 brushes; best paint.
Many overseas peers who win awards just lick their brushes to keep them in good shape and start painting

Very true and very real.
As a Singaporean, I can't change much of others, but I need to step up to change my mindset first.

typically i shoot landscapes... therefore i use the 2470. other than that, i don't carry the 70200 on travels. i also have a 16mm. :bsmilie:

and hence the tripod as well. motorcycle snatch theives? i'm a biker. i know where to hit them where it hurts :bsmilie:

Hmmm... I am a Singaporean, I carry a DSLR (Canon 7D) with a 28mm f2.8 lens. But I have a big haversack because I didn't have other bags. I don't talk to my buddies regarding the latest camera that came on the market, but discuss photography tips and techniques and shared my views (many times was wrong) on photography techniques.

Do I classify as typical Singaporean or the odd one out.

Oh... I sling my camera over my neck and never keep it in the bag until I am sure nothing will be happening... so I walk from Dhoby Gaunt MRT back to Potong Pasir with the DSLR on my neck, and only at Potong Pasir would I keep my cam in the haversack then take the MRT back to Kovan.

Actually if you want to sterotype Singaporeans, then all Singaporeans would sound like vain little human beings (bimbo even). My point is, not all appears like what you have presented. Yes... you see the ang mo in Singapore keeping to themselves, might it be that they keep to themselves because they are the minority and they didn't have too many friends around at that moment.

I happen to see the Ang Mo pretty talkative about fashions and stuffs in Australia too, while the Singaporean are pretty quiet when they are alone too.

Anyway that is OT, not going to go on too much or there might be a racism war

Breathing exercise and correct holding technique... if all these fail... use a tripod, remote control and mirror lock function.

This is just my opinion and how I would do it>
I think you should 'look for the light'.
With that I mean you should look for opportunities at sites that have some sort of illumination (under a street lamps or a shop front window for example as opposed to an unlit sidewalk)
Then you should expose for the light, meaning that only the lit parts and important subject needs to be exposed correctly. The dark parts that are not the focus of the picture don"t need to be well exposed. In fact, the dark bkgnd often tricks the camera to expose more.
All said, the shutter speed should not need to be as low as just a 'blanket' metering of everything.

Other tips if possible:
If you can, use a tripod (and in the case of street/candids, you can setup in an interesting location and just wait for an interesting subject)
Find something to support or brace against something if not using a tripod.

Wireless can shoot from very far away lor. Wired you have to stand with your camera.

Depending on what DSLR you are using. Some of them don't support wireless remote control.

anyway both have their own use. Wired remote control is... well... wired... so you have limited location where you can be and this range is limited by the wire lenght. For the wireless option... many are actually using infra-red beam and so there must be a receiver which many are actually found in the front of the camera, so when you press the remote while standing behind the camera or not facing the receiver, it will not activate the camera.

Of course there is another type of wireless remote that is using radiowave (I think), and not alot of camera had inbuilt receiver for this type of remote control and so a receiver or transmittor needed to be bought and attached to the camera via hotshoe.
