A general question about shutter count

Do you guys bring along a laptop to check the shutter count that the buyer claimed.

I bought a D90 on behalf for my cousin today and the seller advertised at 8000 odd SC, we checked with different shutter count software and found that it is almost 22ooo, which means the seller lied. I shall not reveal the seller name here.

But i would like to enquire if most ppl will check the claimed shutter count on the spot?

I would, but really up to individual.
but the easier method is to ask the seller to take a photo of, say, today's newspaper and email u the jpeg file to check exif urself, save the trouble of having to meet up n find the seller lying

there are softwares to check shutter count by reading the exif of jpg, not referring to filename, this is what tunge suggested, and it is applicable on Nikon camera, since TS is acquiring Nikon camera.

That happens if the shutter count is below 9999 and the SD card has not been formatted once. When the card is formatted, the file numbering resets.

There are software like Opanda iExif that can check shutter count from the jpg files.

I also gonna once before but the difference is about 5k not that much like yours. Based on recent D90 transaction posting, we can easily garner who you bought it from which is not important. Anyway, just enjoy your camera as it is still a long way to go till 100K SC life of the shutter

I'd check. I understand how a D90, with an expected shutter life of 100,000, still have a long way to go, but it does affect the valuation.

When I sell my camera bodies, I always bring my laptop and show the buyer the shutter count on the spot. And if the buyer is new, show him/her what to check in a body. But that is me. Not all sellers do that. So if you are buying, you might want to bring your laptop and card reader along. And if the shutter count is not as claimed, that is a red flag. And be more careful checking the camera body.

But if this is after the fact, just need to suck it up and check the next time you buy a used camera.

I once meetup someone for a camera and she came with the camera body in a box without the bodycap. As for the shuttercount, she posted 9k but when tested on my laptop is 15k.

Most beginner who is not sure of checking shuttercount is to look at the last picture on their sd card n to them that will be the shuttercount.

Yah, but just felt cheated ... that's all : ) I bought at 1130 with the kit lens and body and a prime lens.

I just have to suck thumb and will focus on using the camera to take good images. My cousin is the one who wanted it and we bought it together to share the cost.

I have sold a few camera before, and i always show the buyer what to check for, it good to be honest, cos sg is so small only .. haha ..

I just have to suck thumb and will focus on using the camera to take good images. My cousin is the one who wanted it and we bought it together to share the cost.

I don't sell a lot of camera bodies. So far only sold 1.

But I find it worthwhile to do what I do. But I have a no price haggling and deal at seller's convenience policy to protect myself as well.

I am not speaking up for anyone, but personally for myself, i am not sure of my shutter count too.

However if i am aware that my shutter count is definitely 10k or more, i will not post that it is only 5k.

From my past purchase, i did not check on the shutter count. Most impt is the warranty for me.

And btw, so did u buy from this person in the end? Else he might be posting the same ads which other buyer may just get it from him.
