How to create vivd black background?

Hi there,

Any one can give some tips and advice on how to take photos making the background pure black and only the subject has right light on it? I am taking toy photos and want to learn how to do it. I am currently using 2 softbox at the moment and anyone can advice which good backdrop can use to give more black background and will absorbs light to produce non reflective surface ones light touch on it.

eh, this is digital darkroom (i.e. post-processing) leh so your question might be in the wrong section.

Guess you can use the burn tool in PS to help, "black" the black areas.

shoot in a large dark hall... light ur subject only with strobes. use a small enough aperture and fast enough shutterspeed to reduce light reflected from the back of hall back to ur camera. if done right shld get black.

also, use a back light for seperation.

not one of the best attempts, but it was my first. hope it helps.
since ur shooting objects, i'm not sure if this works. mine is to render background black via low light come back method:x

#1, put your subject far far away from your background

#2, use a black velvet cloth as background.

how about lowlight ambient with fast shutter...

position subject far far away from bg, this is so that the light does not fall on the bg
use black velvet for bg material

This will do also tsk tsk. For me usually i use a pretty high shutter at times.. and when the surrounding lights are pretty low... with a fill flash... u can a lighted subject with a black background : )

you can find velvet cloth available textile shops @ Joo Chiat Road Complex, Textile Center @ Jln Sultan, along Arab Street, China town markets.

those has lot of money to spend and too lazy to search can go straight to Spotlight @ Plaza Singapura.

you can't get pure black if you place your subject ON the black background itself, you need to SEPARATE your subject FROM the background (Read post #5).

you can suspend your subject away from the black background, or shoot normally and PS to darken the background.
