what's the cause of bacterial growth on camera.

Guess I have to take some care to the equipment.
I just thought that with a filter on it would be alright.

Question....What's the steps in changing lens whilst standing alone with just only a camera bag? (with out tripod) Is getting worried about this process too much for a beginner?
I do this...

1. Get new lens ready to be taken out of bag...both caps still on.
2. Turn Camera facing downwards and twist old lens out.
3. Quickly uncap back cap of new lens and put it on the old lens.
4. Put lens into bag with 1 hand while other still holding camera upside down.
5. Take new lens out with out the back cap and attach new lens on

Problem is...I don't know what to hold what during step 3...any experienced points to note in making this transition a little not so kum choing?

Suggestions or even a video?

you take out one lens and change another very fast one right.. dont need to turn the body face down or what.. you just need to uncap the new lens, hold it in right hand, twist old lens out and put new lens in.. then after you're done with the camera then cap back the lens you took out lor..

you like that so kan cheong later drop both ur lens then even worse right~!

dust won't so easily go in one la, you are not in a windy desert or sth.. if there's wind then just face away from the wind lor..

Do you use the camera strap? I think it helps you to handle the body using the neck while your hands are busy with the lenses. Secondly, always try to find a safe spot where you can change your equipment - lesser people, sitting area, etc.

Stagnant air promotes bacteria/fungus... if you're keeping that particular lens for a long while, have the filter remove so that 'trapped' air is not contain between filter & front element of lens. Or that whilte elephant sitting in the corner of the dry cabi/box, manually focus or zoom it back & forth to work out the elements inside. Stagnant air can be replace then...

But the best way is... use them, bacteria/fungus won't stand a chance of growing.

No problem if you only have a few lenses... It will become a terrible chore once you have gathered a large collection! :bsmilie: Your family members will ask what you are doing... your response would be: "Taking them all out for a walk".... :bsmilie:

Sometimes it can't be helped... a lot of times it is due to "inheritance"... May or may not be your call to get rid of them...

Not to say one should over-react when handling lenses. It is an expensive equipment afterall, be it kit lens or some $3000 pro glasses. So, it is understandable when newbies sounds kum cheong when starting to know their DSLRs... The lenses are round, they'd roll off the table if you do not place them properly, let alone handling them in your hands - which could be slippery at times. Newbies will always get nervous when they're doing it for the first time - as time goes by they'd mellow down once they've accumulated enough experiences. So we do need to cut them some slack. Surely you've not forgotten the first time you've handled your camera - such "kum cheong" thoughts have not come across your mind? My bad, you're newbie also? Then handle with care, if you treasure your expensive equipment.

Make sure you clean your camera with antiseptic every 5 mins, and handle the camera only with clean and new surgical gloves. You will minimize bacteria growth. I recommend hydrogen peroxide.
