Hi All,

tried a search on repairing corrupted files, but mostly on data recovery.

I am wondering if anyone knows how to repair corrupted Canon CR2 files. I have managed to recover the data, but am not able to open most of the CR2 files. Those that I can view, most of them have rainbow bands running across the image, others are completely back, the rest can't be view at all.

Appreciate all inputs. Many thanks!

What happened to your files that makes you think they might be repairable?

Haha, I am not 100% sure that they can be repaired. Well, if they are already corrupted during writing to the card, then they cannot be repaired. But I am hoping that the corruption occurs during the transfer. The file sizes of the images seems ok, that is one of the reason why I hope that they may be rescue-able.

Thanks

Technically, if the image is JPG, there's a high probability that it can't be repaired cos the binary bits are already so jumbled up.

If the corruption is during the transfer from camera to card then you are in bigger trouble. Let's hope that the issue is with the card. At the least just change it.

Nope, it's the CR2 files. There are jpegs, but it's the previews shots, so losing them is still ok. The more crucial ones are the CR2s. I am hoping that it's just the bits that's jumbled up and that some s/w is able to fix them back. So far, it's not so good though. Most do recovery of the data, which I have already done, but none mention about fixing the corruption, esp on CR2 files.

Thanks!
