Hi All,

I had decided to buy the Nikon D90. So i went for shopping yesterday. I saw from this forum price guide that the cost of Nikon D90 with 18-105mm kit lens is 1600+

The current promotion from Nikon is $1699 with 8GB, tripod, bag & cleaning kit.

I have not go funan yet. I went to Sim Lim and Mustafa yesterday. For Sim lim, the price ranges from 1390 to 1699. And Mustafa follows the Nikon promotion. Therefore, no cheaper than Sim Lim (Even greater than the 2% credit card charge).

The cheapest i came across is 1390 Body + kit len only. Is it safe to buy from Sim Lim Shop which they quo sooooo cheap....Dont dare to go in, just ask the price...hahaha...

Just want to know anyone bought from Sim Lim before? Is it safe to buy from Sim Lim. Anyone had just bought the Nikon D90 this few days or weeks? Anyone get a cheap deal?

I planning to get brand new Nikon D90 with 18-105mm, A tripod, Nikon bag, 8GB card, Cleaning Kit, Dry box.

Thanks all for your contribution. Have a nice day ;)

Advertised promotion is always at RRP. Current RRP for D90 kit is 1600+.

Prices have come down recently to around mid-1400 for the kit. Look at the shops listed in the price guides. Buy from the more reputable ones among the list. If you don't know which ones, just do a quick search. Don't get into trouble because you think you can save $50 or something.

The shop i feel safe buying is Orient Photo at Level 6, pricing is average street price sometimes even lower, no disrespect to Alan Photo SLS, been there a few times treated like a ghost. hehehe

Well try going to SLR REVO at funan, been hearing they have one of the lowest price for the D90kit.

Enjoy the D90 when u finally have it in ya hands.

cheers:cool:

AP decided to beat SLRRev by $1 HAHA! :)

SLR Revolution look for Jason/Ray , quite patients and cool guy... I got my D90 when they are newly launch. He is kinda nice despite wasting about 2 hours serving me... If u have lotsa queries, do avoid peak period like Friday and weekend.

I never been to Alan photo before so I have no comment on their service but I can say, SLR revo is one of the place that u can trust, John 316 is opposite, good customer service but price wise can't beat the younger gen shops

you may wish to call them @ 63368767 to enquire. Just a note, I am not link to them or whatsoever.

Seriously... I would say most shop do that, even well known TK Foto also treat me like ghost until I say... "Can I see the GITZO" then u will see eye of the people behind the counter looking at you, maybe it's my young age and when I wear berms and flops in that's why I was transparent

Hi guys, so u guys prefer Funan than Sim Lim? Hear that u guys are talking about funan all the time. What u all mean by reputable? If I buy from cheap shop in sim lim, what's the risk? Good from grey market? BTW, how to check camera is brand new or from grey market?

just dont go bally when at funan

funan is ok, the prices there are quite competitive.
as for sls, the one at lvl 6, Orient Photo. some of the staffs are from china, not sure for the boss. i think so.

buying in sim lim should be ok, but "must' make sure every things inside the box before you leave the shop

there's nothing wrong with buying from sim lim square. just need to test the goods and ensure paper work is in order.

that said, to get ease of mind, i would just go to ms color, parisilk, john 316 or even harvey norman to buy my camera.

well all i can say, im not young but my hair is coloured, may be i pass off as one of those poor malay dudes, hahaha, oh well, my experience at Alan SLS is nothin in compared with not so recent with Cathay at penny the sell tripod side... that was errr... but again freak it...

To TS, if u ever decide to buy at sim lim especially from the tons of shop selling cameras, dont get con into buying or paying of the items u dont need, that in regard goes to filters and so called wide angle converters,...

Actually Orient Photo in SLS is one place in SLS where u can purchase with a peice of mind as well :)

Hi all, just went to Funan yesterday and check on the price of Nikon D90
(All come with 8gb, bag, cleaning kit, tripod and kit lens 18-105mm)
SLR Revolution $1450
John $1500
Alan $1460
SA $1560 with uv filter
Joy's $1430
TK Photo $1450 but free gift collect on the spot

Thinking of getting from TK so save the trouble to go down and get my free gift from Nikon. Maybe can negotiate to upgrade the tripod and bag. Anyone know whether is it possible to do it at TK Photo? Now just waiting for my finiancial controller to release the budget.

Pls advice,
What other accessories do I need? Like UV filter, lens hook, is it ok to buy together at TK? It's too crowded there so no chance to talk very long there and don't know the price of other accessories.

You have to ask the folks at TK. We can't tell you if it is possible or not. My feeling is that it is not possible. You just have to buy a new tripod and bag. Not many people wants the freebie tripod and freebie bag.

Other stuff you need, Dry cab, get a Kenko or Hoya fitler (get the better range), lenspen, blower.

BTW what is a lens hook?

Hi Bro Daredevil, what do you mean by a better range filter? How do we define better? Is there any data or number in the filter that can use as a guage?

BTW, i plan to take Sunset and Sunrise photo. Which type of filter do i need to get? If possible, can give me the exact model number. Thanks a lot

If you go to Sim Lim, make sure they don't sell you any rubbish "wide angle and macro convertor" or "Vitacon" or "Stenzeiser" filters. Look in our priceguides section for the Hoya filters pricelist.

None. People have been shooting sunrises and sunsets since before filters were invented. But if you want to have some interesting effects, you can consider an ND grad filter.

Sounds like you're searching for that 'magic weapon' that can make all your photos look wonderful.
Sad to say... you need to buy the appropriate accessory to suit the situation.
If I tell you B+W Nd110 is good, then you buy and shoot crap photos how? You gonna blame me?

Filters have cheap range, medium range and high end range. All depends on your budget but I would recommend you to get at least a medium range one.

Examples of some popular/well known/notorious brands/models:
very cheap range: Vitacon, Emolux, Steinzeiser
cheap range: tokina, Hoya uncoated, hoya both sides coated, Kenko standard, Marumi standard
Medium range: Hoya HMC, , Kenko HMC, Marumi DHG, Hoya Pro1D, Kenko Pro1D, Marumi Super DHG
Hi end range: B+W MRC, Hoya HD, Kenko Zeta, Rodenstock, Heliopan

For Sunrise and Sunset, you need to know how to take. The filters are only used in certain conditions and situations. You need know what those conditions and situations are. You need to know when to use those filters. They come in varying price-range as well as degrees (of reduction), so you need to know what you need. If you still want a formula, simple, just get:

- the Lee foundation kit
- 77mm Lee adapter
- 0.6 Lee pro glass ND filter
- 0.9 Lee pro glass ND filter
- 0.3 Lee GND
- 0.6 Lee GND
- 0.9 Lee GND

Not too expensive. All the Lee stuff above together should not cost you more than $1k. ;)
