anyways, just to throw you another question:

if john 3:16 called you yesterday and said, "sorry rupertstreet, we've been selling these bags for $800, and other shops are selling them for $800, but we have undercharged you and given you the bag for $270. can you kindly pay us the difference of $530? oh, and can you please, please, mail us a cheque for $530?"

please tell me that you'd do the same for them. :bsmilie:

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I don't get it. Why does everyone think i'm comparing prices? I'm not. I don't care if other shops happen to charge cheaper and mine's more expensive. But I do take issue when John 3:16 themselves say they normally charge $190 for the bag, and yet, I paid $270 for it.

Like I said earlier, it started off as an enquiry, as I wanted to know what the bag cost, given that the receipt doesn't show a breakdown, and having heard what others were charging. But when they said they only charge $190, then my question is, where did the extra $80 go to?

buy $270 for a new bag used more the 3weeks...yet tried to sell it to your friend at the same price....lucky ur friend do his homework...

You ought to read carefully. It's $270 plus the tripod attachment ($30) thrown in with it. And in the 3 weeks, i've only used it 2x. I even have all the labels.

I think to TS, it's not the money issue of losing that extra bucks. I think TS is unhappy because the shop overpriced their stuffs and not consistent with their pricings. John 3:16 is supposed to be a reliable shop after having so many good reviews and yet such incident occurs where price is not fixed.

I totally agreed with you on this. It's a matter of selling above the retail price which make me think if John is a reliable shop.

To sell at retail price without discount, I give my hat to the sale person. To sell above the retail price to me is out to cheap.

So u are unhappy about inconsistent pricing? But then u said that's not your point previously. So I am abit lost actually.

it's not inconsistent pricing. It's a mistake on their part. I paid $270. John 3:16 now sayt they sell the same bag for $190. So why did I pay $80 extra. That's the million dollar question!

Night86mare I have decided to humour you by responding to this.

No, I wouldn't, because contractually, I agreed to buy and john 3:16 agreed to sell at $270. If they had mistakenly sold it to me at $270 when it should have been $800, that is their problem. Legally, this is called a unilateral mistake made by one party and the courts will normally uphold the contract unless it can be shown that the non-mistaken party, i.e. I, knew about the mistake and tried to take advantage of the mistake. It is different in online sales, but that's another story altogether.

The current case concerns over-charging which is caught by the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act. This is also why CASE has jurisdiction to hear such claims.

its very simple on why they want you to go down and talk face to face...

if you based on a scanned receipt to claim your $80 by asking them to send a cheque... it will be very stupid for anyone to do that... not to mentioned they are running a business... we all know that there are so many internet scam flying around...

what if i cut and paste your scanned receipt and tell them the same story... are they going to also send a cheque to me?

if you had gone down to the shop (till now i think you still haven't answered why it is so difficult for you to go down), the shop would have the option to refund you the difference and in the process, stamped something like "refund of $80 done" on your ORIGINAL receipt..

in this way, nobody will be able to use the same receipt and try to come up with the same story...

sigh. Maybe my posts are too long. Like I said in my earlier post, they have a carbon copy of the same receipt. So they can put their worries about scamming aside. And now that they have the same receipt and are satisfied that it is legit, they are saying that I could have bought additional items which are not shown on the receipt. :dunno:

God.. if you really want to be so bloody pedantic about it, why not call up a lawyer etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.?

This thread is fast descending to petty whining if you ask me.

just ignore all those John 316 supporters. i paid almost double the selling price for a nikon battery at this shop. now i never go there. yeah yeah we should do our market research bla bla bla, but is that the shop's right to sell it at that kind of price? just dont go there, and tell all your freinds too. opposite John 316 got a better shop.

i agree. What to do, some people here choose to make comments without reading carefully. I was merely trying to share my experience and admittedly, vent my frustration, but in the end, I got criticized, some fairly and some, not quite. One has to be defensive when the situation calls for it. Call it a job hazard.

after 12 hours, you still on this topic. For a definite solution or answer - head down to the shop. Nobody, here, can do anything to resolve your problem by just reading your side of the story.

haha, yeah, i've got no life. What to do. Just everyone's darn (bad) luck that i'm on MC.

I'll have a think about it. Thanks.

I seem to have only bad experiences to share so far.

Have you ever thought about this seriously? Maybe it is just you?
Many of us don't seem to have any bad experiences with Cathay, Alan, John, etc ...

Lucky you!

hmmm....maybe it's just me and camera shops. I do very well with other retailers and even count many of them as friends.

To be fair, i've only dealt with Cathay, John and ParisSilk at HV. ParisSilk has great service and prices but they don't always have what I want. The Cathay at Peninsula really depends on whom you get, but I tend now to prefer the one at Marina. Never been to any other. I'm still new to photography.

Don't think just go. If no refund just take a knife and cut the bag in front of them and walk away, don't look back - just act like those cool guys don't look at explosions :bsmilie: Believe me you will feel better than having the refund.
