If you want to just pop into a store and buy one quickly, chances are the hardware stores near or at shopping centers catering to the ex-pat markets would have basic models. Try the stores at Holland Shopping Ctr or the one at Orchard Towers near Jasons.
The other chain to try is Home-fix.
Needless to say, buying from these stores usually come with higher mark-ups.
If you already have a particular brand in mind, look it up and see if that brand has a local distributor, which may do retail, or also have a list of retailers.
Another option is the Lavender/Jalan Besar area which has a profusion of hard-core hardware stores.

I think what you are looking for is a Grass Trimmer, which comes in cordless or electric.

I use one of them with an extension cord, no issues, each lasts about 4-6 years. You get it at Homefix for <$100.

Be very careful with electric mowers, if the grass is wet some mowers have been known to electrocute the users. If you have a small area you'll probably get better results with a push mower (hand operated rotary drum type mower).

Wow that's pretty bad - they must have had some something exposed, maybe the cord had been degraded in some way? I have mown wet grass and it is hard work as tends to clog up the blades. Personally I don't mind using a manual but think the person who I'm trying to get it for might! Especially as they have a small slope. Oh well visit to Home Fix tomorrow.......and maybe just have to be happy with a push mower.

All electric lawn-mowers are dangerous, regardless of insulation type (single or double insulated) unless an RCD is used. One of the main sources of electrocution is wet grass coupled with accidently cutting the extension cable feeding the mower.
As I said it depends on the size of the grass area, a 6 x 10m strip of grass takes about 10 mins by hand and as long as you do it regularly it will not be very hard work. With either method you'll still need to rake up the clippings unless you get an electric mower with catcher and that usually is not cheap.

I am inclined to think that auntie Ice has landed into some pretty heavy snow.
She needs a heavy duty snow plough machine - if at all she can operate one.
Given the cold winter, she won't have much grass growing, unless... She has a thermal garden.
Otherwise, she needs gilette G2 for a good shave.

It's a great idea. Nm forget school. It's a waste of time. Come eat grass and keep lawns short - a win-win situation, an easy life and everyone will love you. Politics and economics just makes you grow grey and crabby.
