What is Street Photography to you?

For me???
I'm temporarily living here, maybe a year from now when I've finished my projects then i can go back home. Bringing loads of photos, timeless memories & precious moments on this wonderful island... The friendships & alot more... I shoot everywhere & almost anything, it's a way to relieve stress also.. I always try "looking for the rose in a pile of bullets" as much as possible, i don't know the meaning of street photography but i know that i can shoot on the streets...:) The wonderful thing for bout that is the interaction bet you & the subjects, hoping that someday those will refresh my memories...:)

Kampai!

I think street photography is really showing the invisible from the visible.

I think Singapore would make a great place for street photography. There's SO many things to capture.

Once I was having dinner at the voiddeck coffee shop. The tables spilled over to those empty void deck, usually used for funerals and stuff like that. So, while waiting for the dish to arrive, I took a breather and walked to the carpark, turned around and saw the whole scene of the void deck. I can literally feel that this is the 'kodak moment'. I felt my eyes widening and there is this subtle rush of adrenaline. Too bad I dont have my camera with me.

Well, the previous chunk of words proves 2 points.
1. To me, Street photography is really about capturing emotions and story of the people and surrounding. A street shot succeed if you have a person, just one, poring over the photograph and feel what it is like to be at the place at the moment the photo is taken.

2. Singapore do have a great backdrop for photography. Just that we have to look closer.
I always have the idea of sitting at a coffeeshop with one side facing a blank wall, then take a picture of whoever that passes by. I bet that makes good material for street photography.

interesting thought, so how can one be prepared to 'capture' the decisive moment? obviously one needs to have a cam at that time, what else do you need?

OMG what a painful thread to read -_-, and after i just edited 200 photos of zurich -_-... OMG.

What is street photography to me?

I'd say to capture something that occured naturally (not set up) and spontaniously on an urban backdrop.

But to the arguement's sake about why London might possible be better than an ASIAN city, not the whole continent, is the infusion of cultures, the tolerance of others, and the individuality of self.

Anyway everwhere has it's "gem" moments, and gem moments are again subjective to taste. Maybe can OT less.

Anyway i believe that to do great street photography, one must treat it like birding. Get a nice 500mm lens, put on a teleconverter and monopod, then sit in 1 spot and wait for the moment a "bird" "poses"

.. Get a nice 500mm lens, put on a teleconverter and monopod, then sit in 1 spot and wait for the moment a "bird" "poses"
why not? if you sit out and get your 'gem', I'm sure it's all worth the effort.

I haven't read much response on the approach part ie is interacting with your subject your style? It's not my preferred style though often times when this happen, it's more like my subjects who initiated the interaction, I don't normally do that.

Hmmm.. Am not really a sit down & telephoto lens person. Prefer to be in the crowd with 35mm or 50mm.

Oh well, every one has their different methods. Most important thing is capturing the moment.

heehee yea, but so far i haven try it shooting street shots using wide angle tho. !! :)

i don't think you get my point. you are more engrossed in forcing your opinion down my throat, that you have not bothered to consider mine.

on the other hand, i am sure i have not tried to force any opinion down anyone's throats.

but it's ok, this is my last post here.

I really dun bro!
Guess you are just another CS member who like to talk
more about gears and techniques stuff and no pictures to prove your point. :thumbsd:

Nai Meh, why are you such a magnet for these type of situations?

Since you have mellowed and become humbler over the months, mind if I direct him to your portfolio? It's getting on my nerves. Sorry about that.

PLEASE check out night86mare's APAD here and judge for yourself.

Now, off I go to lunch...

Please make up your mind and check the thread title again bro.

It's a free forum you can speak anything freely. Nothing wrong to have your own preference.
Btw, we are still talking about street photography right? or are we talking about landscapes?
I respect everyone's comment in CS. But, I do not respect people who comment
about my country or compare other people country that is less interesting and
less colorful than others! Even it is I will keep it to myself. Are you Singaporean bro?

Why not you show us what is SO interesting about street in London
than Singapore and Asia! I am sure people in CS would love to see it. How? :)

Lol the contradictions in between these lines are hilarious.

this thread was so interesting when it begins. and with the suggestions by various CSers abt street photography. the sites are also interesting...

until someone comes in and spoil the whole damn thing. i side no ones and i think Night86mare has some of the nicest pic over here.(to me at least.)

This thread suppose to be no right or wrong. everyone has their own opinions so why blast him off? this thread was educative in the beginning till it starts to become a flamming thread. So we cannot have a prefer style or photographer is it? everybody tastes must synchronise. if u are not in syn then u are wrong? then what are nude potraits? some thinks is art and others porn? this thread is no longer purposeful anymore.

Erm, that's why I directed you to his works. It has both landscape and street photography. Seriously, I don't know what else you expect from him. :dunno:

If I were a robot, all of these contradictions would have blown my fuse. "Does not compute"
