New Help With Computer Partitions.

My PC drives are partitioned to C, and D. All my photos are saved to D drive.

I have another External 1TB Hard Disk plugged in for auto backup mirroring the D drive.

I have almost filled my D drive with photos, left with about 4GB free now. (It wasn't a lot to began with) I am going add a new 1TB internal drive.

My question is, is it possible to close the current partition (C&D) and let it become C and let the new internal drive becomes D, WITHOUT having to reinstall/format everything?

Basically I like to keep things to C&D only.

can but not recommended, cos assuming ur C is your boot. Never play with your boot drive partition, u'll cry if it gets corrupted.

Mebbe Magic Partition (software program) may be able to help. Look it up.

Yes. I did exactly that with lots of data already inside when I bought and added a new hardisk. Old hardisk was previously partitioned into C&D. Made it C. New Hard disk is D. Used a free utility ( I think Partition Mgr 8) that came with a computer magazine to do that. It works.

Its Partition Magic... i manage to screw that up, for just resizing of hdd...

there is a freeware which works pretty well thou... forgot whats the name, can look in sourceforge.

EASUS Partition Manager is free to use for XP and Vista 32 bit (unlike Norton's Partition Magic). Alternatively get any of the free Linux live CDs (e.g. Ubuntu), boot off the CD and use the Partition Editor (GParted) bundled with the live CD system.

Basically you "delete partition" for your existing D drive, then "extend partition" for the C. After that, install your new hdd and you're good to go.

Yes, already done. I hope my programs run as normal.

Main concern is Lightroom and Genie Backup Manager, which I set to mirror-backup D drive to my external HD.
