You certainly are moving in the right direction. Just by cropping a little, had improved the shot by a great bit.

I see that you are a keen learner in photography. Soon, with practice, all this becomes second nature and you will find that you are correcting your shots on ur own as you will be able to see those details. Thus the great number of shots you will take by adjusting the composition, aperture and settings.

The norm:
I take a few sample shots, each time correcting them according to the output in LCD and when i have the correct settings, guess what? i shoot some more. Out of the many only a few makes the details i aim for and out of the few only a couple come out good.

Pros always advise: Take hundreds of shots, choose the few that are good and when it comes to displaying or showcasing, produce only the best shots(Which may be only 1 or 2).

Keep Shooting.

It's been some time since I've posted in this thread! Ice cream anyone?

wow from the first few pictures you posted to these ice cream shots , it's very clear that you've gotten better. though the cropping of the ice cream might not suit some , i find it quite nice. only thing is , the DOF for the last shot is quite shallow. shooting at a smaller aperture would've done good to that shot. maybe shifting your angle slightly lower would've been good too. :D

Agreed, your shots are getting better! Keep up the improvement :)
Idk how old are you, but in school my home econs classes has asked for shooting of the food they cook.
Not only do they know how to set up the food nicely.... Even the food they cook, the presentation is v good.
That may help in taking more food shots :)
Aka go to the "expensive" restuarants where the presentation is super good XD

Good job, nice to see your progression. Just curious, did you see why the 3rd and the last two ice cream photo looks promising (aside from the fact that those dishes were well styled by the restaurant)?

Notice that your light in this post and this post were lit from the side and rear of the subject and the light is soft. Your other photos were too flatly lit (either from the top or from the camera's axis). The side/rear soft light greatly enhances color, texture, and depth. Remember how the good pics were lit and stick to that for now, and keep the camera steady :)

Good job again.

Thanks! I always have the bad habit of having my aperture wide open when shooting those food. I guess I have to change that!

Too old to have home econs classes now. :(

Thanks for the tip! I guess that's where the previous pictures failed. The ice cream were shot just beside the entrance where there were great light coming from outside. I'll keep that in mind.

Wahhhhh :bsmilie:

Wahhhhh what? :dunno:

Ice cream shots are . Can see you have levelled up.
Hope to see more good stuff from you.
