is it possible to create this by using 50mm f 1.8 lens?...
i'm using D80 with Tamron 90 f2.8 macro.. can use any lens including 50mm f1.8 but longer zoom lens is preferable as your lens will not get wet.. camera and water don't go well
Fantastic work man....Wah, Wish i could get shots like that. Maybe should use my gels on the flash and try this. Mostly i use them only for warming or color correction.

Was wondering..with regards to gels on flash, I've seen a youtube tut where its instead flashed at a piece of colored paper place at far end of tub.
Advantage seem to be that you can really use any colored paper/towels? in this case.
And also if u use multiple colors, or 2 colors as in the tut, the droplets will reflect that as well. Which really opens up a whole range of other ideas.
Seems like a great alternative method?

u r rite bro, using colored paper as the background will also add up the color reflection in the droplets. I dun have colored paper so used black cloth as background and color gel...
i saw photos where distinctive object (coke bottle,etc) can be placed at the background so it get reflected in the droplets... so ya it open up a whole range of ideas n creativity..
the following are lesson learns from my experiment:
- it's easier to do the shot in relatively dark environment so the flash will become dominant to freeze the droplet and bring out the color reflection..
- shutter speed 1/200s is adequate to freeze the droplet in dark environment..
- since the lens is placed closed to the object, the DOF is thin so aperture smaller than f/20 is preferable to get enough DOF n sharper image..
- if encounter hot spot due to flash reflection, move the background further away to disperse/soften the light..
- play around with color balance function in PS.. "color gel/colored background + PS color balance = unexpected result"

I have 3rd project already..Polar panoramas.
For this must know what sort of photos will work well and shoot accordingly..
