White Balance reference material for custom mode

Hi all,

I understand the challenge of photography in Indoor especially in getting the correct white balance settings. The ambient light, shutter speed and apeture do contribute in getting the right result.

Which type of Referencing material is preferred?

1) Reference card or some say the gray card.
2) Reference lense cap
3) Others

Please do pen down your preferred type or possibly the made and model.

I am thinking of buying the WhiBal® White Balance Reference Card. Any users care to comment on this? It seems that i can only purchase this online. :think:

Save the money. Shoot raw and use LR batch processing later.

Use whatever is appropriate for the situation. Read about the usage of the various tools. There is no "one tool serves all situations".
Sometimes you cannot set only the WB in camera to match ambient light, there are cases where you need to gel your flash as well. Use the search function, your question has been discussed already and the existing threads give plenty of information.

better to shoot with RAW then do post processiong after it...

shooting raw and correct WB is not always work, if you able to get it right or close in the camera, you will save lots of time in post production.

many photographers required to shoot the images in jpg, burn CD and give it to client right after the shoot. correct WB at post is not an option.

i don't see the practicality of pp-ing hundreds of pictures just for WB.

I've never really used any ExpoDiscs la, gray card la... what's been working (for me at least) is to randomly Click White Balance from whites or grays in photos. Could be someone wearing a white shirt or the white board in classroom or the gray steel bookshelf. Once you got a balanced colour that you like, just batch those which were taken in the same environement or setting for that matter.

I use the same method too. Or just keep a piece of white paper on you.
