wow, finally a G-shock styled camera...... should do well

Any idea if its available and which price point anyone ?

Is not that of similar ruggedness as the old 1030??

It has been in Australia for a short while now.

I have put off ordering it in (had other stock to move :bsmilie:).

I should get some in about a week. I just hope the image quality is better than their previous version were.

I also have the Panasonic TS1 comming in; my guess is the image quality will be better, unless Olympus have changed their glass

If Olympus used the same quality glass of their Zuiko lens in their better end P&S cameras, they would rule

Cheers :)

I am not so sure if the use the same Zuiko glass in their PnS. Probably not. Hehe.;

Well we have the 8000 and I have had a wee play with it.

Would I buy one ????

If it gave the same quality of photo results as the previous models, then, NO

But .... This one, the 8000, I would definately buy

The image quality is far superior to the past models.

I have not found out what they have done yet (better glass ??) but it is very good.

Cheers :)

How much did you pay for it?

How does this camera fair compare to canon?

Anyone has any pics to share?

I bought the 6000-series of this model camera and used in the sea once. The overall color is good and accurate in well lite environment. However indoor, dark room shots are very poor with over aggressive software correction which results in lost of details. Even in ISO 400 the over correction by the software is very obvious.

The underwater tricks work flawlessly. However potential buyer should beware of this catch. The instruction manual has a small print saying that the rubber seals on this camera should be replaced annually if you plan to use this camera in water a lot.

Another problem with this camera is that the lens has a cover which closed when powered off. This traps moisture if you have used it under water for some time and will not allow the lens area to dry problem. In the long run, this could be a potential problematic area.

Does it suffer from the quick battery drain of the previous model? I had the 1030 and battery life deteriorated pretty fast after 6mths , despite getting new batteries.

Not sure only used it once. But the battery did go from full bar to empty after a couple of underwater shots with flash which is rather strange.
