Hi bro and sis,

How many has this combination? Will the D-ring able to withstand the weight?

I saw one Canon 5D III bro + super long tele on a D-ring with blackrapid, could weigh over 7 kg?

Regards,
Bernard

I wouldn't place that amount of gear on it. I wouldn't feel safe. :p

It probably can but I don't trust it. Even with a lighter body and 50mm prime I still don't trust it, nvrmind ~$6K body+lens. Too risky.

Someone with a spare QD plate should do a test.

You saw someone with a prototype 5D III already!?

I think the rapid sling might be strong, but I don't think the camera body's screw thread can take the load upside down.

I was thinking of attaching my RS-1 to the QR plate (Manfrotto), but decided not to. The D-ring is not designed to hold the weight of camera + lens + flash, AFAIK. Secondly, the D-ring is designed to help you turn the screw that fastens the QR to the camera. So what happens when you hang your camera by the D-ring and it rotates around? Your QR plate gets loose --> disaster.

Was wondering if I should get a Wimberley lens ring to attach the RS-1 to, and reserve the QR for tripod use. THat would allow me to use a tripod with RS-1 attached. Any comments?

No technical test to prove it is safe up to what kind of weight.... very risky
