is 24-105mm a good fit on a 50d overall?

its an excellent range for everyday shoots.

May not be wide enuf for crop body

Good for full frame, not really wide enough for a 50D.

depends what you define wide enough as. if you dont find yourself shooting at the wide end much , i guess i'd be ok? i shoot with a tamron 28-75 and i love it.

Good fit. When it mounts, it's snug. I'd consider that a good fit.

Good range? Perhaps, or maybe not. It's up to your preference of ranges that you shoot in. 24mm is usually not considered very wide on a 1.6x crop camera.

Decent lens but as most bros have mentioned, it may not be wide enough. Stick to your kit lens or get the Tamron 17-50mm instead.

In my experience, the Canon EF 24-105mm L f/4 IS lens offers a fairly good mating surface upon interlocking with the EF lens mount mechanism. There is some perceptable play, but only when the lens is twisted along it's saggatial plane perpendicular to the sensor plane, and with moderate force. However, this is fairly normal in most cases even with the highest specified lens/camera combinations and even with highly engineered premium or luxury lenses costing five figures.
