Not confirm. Because I dun have the appropriate lens. Haha.

Ryan, how do you guys determine the type of lens to use? Through experimentation?

I'm currently on the Kit Lens and still experimenting...was thinking of getting the Portrait lens (50mm) since I like to take shots of people.

Shooting more. Learning from bros and sis here. Read up on the internet.

But most of all, when come to equipment, you have to be sure what you need then you buy. I usually rent the lenses to test 1st. :)

The kit lens is good to have and can actually get good results out of it.

You can rent lenses??

wow...didnt noe can rent lens until now. but they're soo far from me..

another thing. i read from dpreview that 450d is capable of a 1/4000 shutter speed.
but i can only set it to 1/200? is there something i'm missing here?

and lastly, any lens thats to recommend for taking scenery or events? just like 50mm f1.8 for portrait?

Which mode are you using when you try to set it to 1/4000? Do you have a flash on? Some flashes can sync up to 1/200 only.

That's your X-sync speed. Close your pop-up flash and you are free to use higher shutter speed. If you are using Speedlite then you can enable High-Speed Flash.

Scenery shots, your kit lens is good enough. I bought one recently. Sharp sharp.

oh ya. i close the flash and go m mode to try and yup, i can go to 1/4000. thanks.
but the picture is totally black if taken. so i guess i need a flash which can handle 1/4000 shutter in dark conditions?

Not really possible with typical flash unit.

 actually i dont understand why u have to shoot at 1/4000 in dark conditions. you can always change the shutter settings so that u get more light entering your camera instead of using a flash and fixing ur shutter speed at 1/4000.

:dunno: 1/4000 means the shutter is only open for 0.00025s. Do you know that?

You dun need a flash. You need to read Photography Notes For Newbies.

In the mean time, do not shoot in M mode yet.

At 1/4000s, flash does not help. Need the Sun.

If bought brand new, it should contain the installation CD.
