Guys..

Open a new threat, what you think about rent a lens ?

My personal opinion is rent a lens and camera body is worth to try and can save a numbers of $$$, for light user / weekend shooter, is advisible to rent a super duper expensive lens rather than try to buy it, and most of the time the lens will sitting happily in your dry cabinet.

Rent a lens you can try all the lens range, and even can try the most expensive body, but how you things about this ??

Lets discuss about this

Regards
Phil ;)

I feel threatened by your new threat. Hahaha.

Rental is definitely the way to go if wanting to try new gear before making a decision on whether to buy it or not. May I ask, though, what this has to do with Canon gear? I do believe it's more of general discussion. :)

IMO, renting a lens or a camera body is to try out the equipment that you may want to purchase before making the plunge and regret later. For me, I want to get my 'L' but do not have the money now so I rent and try the L lenses for the past 2 weeks and it had really made me narrow down to a few that I will be most likely to purchase.

I think this is a common topic across all manufacturers of cameras and not just Canon only. :)

Depends on the rental pricing though, if the cost of rental is about 5-10% of the item, it is much more worth while to buy it instead of rent.

Unlike car rental which u only pay 0.1-0.2% per day.

Photography rental is also by per day basis. The higher end the lens, the more pricey. And what ilihz is quite true. Rent something that is of higher end to try.

wonder if anyone would want to rent my 5Dii with 24-105 for SGD100/day :D

All I need is 55 days then can buy new set

It's not a surprise to find rental rates for newer (and high end) cameras and lenses quite steep. It does cost fifty or sixty-something bucks to rent a 1DIII for a day if I'm not mistaken.

renting an L lens for a big sports event would be cool if you cant afford those L lens.

Rented a 70-200mm F/4L IS USM from Paradigm and when the first time i held it mounted with the 450D body the weight was a shocker to me.

if the f/4L IS is heavy, the f/2.8L IS would weight a tonne... for you. hahaha

how much was the rental for the 70-200L. Thinking of renting it and the 2.8 to test out.

Hi,

This is Gwen from SPH.
I'm doing a story on rental in light of the recession.

Was just wondering do you guys see more people renting equipment instead of buying?
Maybe more prudent with their spending.

Also, are there people who rent out their equipment maybe to earn some extra cash? Are there more of such people recently?

Help would be greatly appreciated!

You can msn me at swallow_xyz@hotmail.com or nggwen@sph.com.sg

THANKS:)

Best to ask the people doing the renting - it's in the services offered section.
