I've not read this thread till now.
POV from an organiser!
1. Reason behind those catchy titles:
The first reason why i did this was because i realised that this was the only way to attract people into the thread. If i dont do it, other people are doing it and my thread lose out. If you look at the number of views in descending order in the workshop archive, you will discover that those threads with higher number of views are usually those with these catchy titles. When you know how to lead people into the thread, would you still use simple titles like "Model shoot, 14 Feb", which you know very little people will enter? Modelinn has found a name for himself, with his lighting equipments and overseas model, that's why people will just click into his threads when he updates. However, for people like me and the other new organisers, no one would bother about our threads if we do it the boring way.
2. Why so desperate to get your thread noticed?
Because it's my main source of income to get me through each week. I've stopped taking pocket money from mum eversince i started organising photoshoots, and whatever i earned, even if it's very little, is also essential to me, or else i'll have nothing to eat for the next week. Some ask how can i use this as a ricebowl if im earning so little for those shoots that i quoted little price from the photographers. Again, it's because lowcost shoots gets more response. Im able to quote the price for photographers at a lower cost because i have outside negotiations and collaborations with some of the models.
3. Lousy models?
People have to understand that we are not mothers of the models we used. Although some of the models i've featured are under me, but there are also a number of them which i outsourced from other poeple. I see their photos and looks, but i wont know how well they pose in real life. It's the same as when you hire models from model agencies, you wont know whether the models pose as good as their portfolio or that's only some of her best pictures. If you go to a supermarket and chose ABC brand of biscuits, and it doesn't taste good, you cant blame the supermarket because their job is only to outsource and supply. They are not the biscuit manufacturer. I always make sure that my models have gone through enough experiences, and ability to pose before letting them take part in my group shoots. I've eliminated many girls and "models" who are too stiff to pass. Rest assure that if i know the model is stiff, and gets bad responses from the photographers who shot her before, that'll probably be the last i present them to the photographers. The last thing i would like to see is disappointment from the photographers who join my shoots. Why would i want to ruin my own reputation as a shoot organiser?
4. GWCs joining shoots.
I beg to differ. Yeap, there might be people who join the shoot for a negative motive, but i know some people who join my nurse/policewoman shoot only because of the theme. Some of them just want a different addition to their portfolio because they've shot too much of casual fashion/bikini/lingerie.
5. Implementing legal age to view threads/forum.
Who says under 18 can't be serious photographer? Gotta be fair
I dont know if you know (but alot of people that i've met didn't know) that we organisers paid a certain amount to advertise in clubsnap. And when our shoots dont have response, no one gives us back our $.
I know what im saying here is opposing to alot of people who have contributed to this thread. Im explaining from a organiser's POV, and hope you guys will put yourselves in our shoes.
