so here i am again....

How did the Outing come along? Can't wait to see your photos people!

I have a few noob/goondus-like-me questions:

1. if i were to get a K10D, is the kit lens good enough?
2. for lenses, can i use a 3rd party lens e.g Tamron 17-50mm?
3. i'm clueless about flash....any idea what to get?
4. does pentax has its own image manipulating s/w? (stupid ques as i'm not so keen to do touch ups for my pics..hehehe)
5. will i get a slap on the butt for asking these ques? hehehehe...

sorry people...i'm just a newbie..

I'll try to ans some questions as I'm also a noob =P

1. I dont' own the kit lens but there is a thread somewhere here doing a comparision of the kit lens version I & II.

2. I only got 2 Pentax lens (50mm & 50-200mm) and the others are 3rd party lenses. (i.e. Sigma, Tamron & Vivitar)

3. Flash..if your buget is high enough for flash you can get the pentax flash or if you have tight budget like me can get Sigma.

4. Yes but I don't use them...

5. I wouldn't wanna slap someone butt except my baby nieces when they are naughty :bsmilie:

1. Hmm good enough is quite relative leh...Good enough to shoot what leh... good enough for me might not be good enough for you and vice visa... so depends on what u use for. All i can say is its a vey good kit lens. But i dun have it...:bsmilie:
2. Of course can. Just a matter of finding them. :)
3. depends on budget and needs. Got budget, stick to pentax, if u dun need swivel head, AF360 is enough, else only and best option is AF-540. Cheaper budget would be sigma EF530 ST(without wireless PTTL) or sigma EF 530 super.
4. Yes got those software that comes with the CD for image viewing and adjustment. But i never use it.
5. I give u a lifetime certificate of entiltlement for pentax ownership and a big welcome hug to the family.

1. if i were to get a K10D, is the kit lens good enough?
Yes, if you shoot normal pics of ppl, landscape, in bright light

2. for lenses, can i use a 3rd party lens e.g Tamron 17-50mm?
I own the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 and a Tokina 60-300mm F4-5.6 (Manual) and the FA50mm F1.4

3. i'm clueless about flash....any idea what to get?
If got budget get the AF540 or the AF360 if budget not enough.

4. does pentax has its own image manipulating s/w? (stupid ques as i'm not so keen to do touch ups for my pics..hehehe)
Yes, but I never use it. I never PP my pics also (Not yet anyway)

5. will i get a slap on the butt for asking these ques? hehehehe...
Nope.

Good offers all around. Should get it before it's snap up?

I feel so naked without my camera. Sold my K10D and waiting for my bonus to get a K20D... Few more months for my lonely lenses...

Sorry for hijacking for a bit.

I've been into photography on and off for a decade and have owned Yashica, Canon SLR and Nikon DSLR. It's been entry level all the way and I'm thinking of moving up a notch. I'm thinking of D300 but at that price, it's a bit steep. Which is why I'm eyeing the K10D (which is more of a D200 equivalent. K20D~D300?) Why? Besides the unique settings, the SR. I can't imagine the number of times when I screwed up a shot due to OOF. Sure, I could get me some VR lenses, but they don't have VR primes. They also cost a bomb. (I know that 105mm VR was recently released) With an SR body, every lenses is a VR, and that makes things much easier.

I'm THIS close to moving to Pentax, but a tiny problem is holding me back. Lens rental. I don't think the folks at the rental places have a wide selection of Pentax mounts. (Or maybe I'm looking in the wrong places)

BTW, could you guys reccomend me some choice lenses? I'm eyeing Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 and Pentax SMC 50 f1.7. Also, which shop has the best range of Pentax/P* mount lenses?

Baracus...you're most welcomed to chat in my thread. i don't own this website. heheheh.......

and for your million dollar ques, i'm just charging $5 per Ques Asked. Small amount....kekekekekek

Baracus, I would actually recommend that you go for the K20D instead...

Why the K20D is hands down better:

1) No back or front focusing issues. If there were any, you can adjust for it yourself in the Custom Menu
2) Better AF
3) Better WB control
4) Better resolution and dynamic range from the great sensor
5) Better noise control, especially at high ISOs
6) Colour rendition is better, no more oversaturated reds typical of CCD sensors
7) Jpegs are better straight from the camera
8) Bigger LCD monitor that can be calibrated
9) Better battery life
10) The intervalometer feature is fun to use
11) Live View may not be perfect but it's there should you need it
12) Quieter shutter

I have owned the K100D, K100D Super and K10D before my present K20D.

I planned to get the K20D initially, but thought otherwise. I admit that it's a great alternative to D300, but price-wise it's out of my reach at the moment. I'll reconsider it at the end of the year once I get my finances in check, what with the purchase of a new system + lenses + waiting for the 2nd hand market availability, and all that. Otherwise, I won't have enough left for my Tokyo trip.

As what Fengwei advise me a couple of months back...

Get K10D now but you'll upgrade to K20D so ended up waste more $$...

*sigh*

Noone want to buy over my C350d...*sob sob*
