Security and Traffic Arrangements for Singapore Fireworks Celebration 2008
The Singapore Fireworks Celebration 2008 will be held at the Marina Bay floating platform on 22 and 23 August 2008 (Friday & Saturday) from 5pm till 11pm. Large crowds and heavy vehicular traffic are expected around the Marina Bay area during the event.
Security Arrangements
Members of the public are advised to look after their belongings especially when they are in crowded places. For safety and security reasons, bags and personal items may be subjected to checks by the Police. Members of the public are advised to co-operate with the Police to facilitate the checks. They should also notify the Police of any suspicious items or persons.
As large crowds are expected to gather at Esplanade Bridge , Esplanade Waterfront Promenade and Merlion Park , event security officers will be regulating the number of persons allowed into these areas for safety reasons.
In view of the large expected turnout, members of the public are advised to be patient and follow the instructions of the event security officers and traffic marshals during dispersal. Heavy congestion is expected at City Hall MRT Station and members of the public are advised to make use of Raffles Place MRT Station and other public transport alternatives to leave the area.
Traffic Arrangements
One carriageway of Temasek Avenue (towards the direction of Raffles Avenue ) between Raffles Boulevard and Raffles Avenue will be closed from 9pm to 10 pm each night (22-23 Aug 08) to facilitate and regulate the flow of human and vehicular traffic.
Traffic congestion is expected at the event venue and its peripheral roads. Motorists are advised to avoid the affected area, plan their journey in advance or make use of public transport if they are proceeding to the Marina Bay area.
Traffic marshals will be deployed at all affected road junctions to regulate traffic and facilitate pedestrian crossings along the routes. Summon actions will be taken against the owners of vehicles that are found parking illegally or causing obstruction. Such vehicles will also be towed away.
Motorists are advised against stopping on the ECP ( Benjamin Sheares Bridge ) during the fireworks display. Apart from causing congestion, indiscriminate stopping of vehicles along the bridge is also irresponsible and dangerous. To ensure the safety of other motorists, event security officers will not hesitate to take enforcement action against errant motorists.
Traffic Police will be providing regular updates to keep motorists informed of the traffic situation via EMAS advisory notices and TrafficWatch. Members of public may contact the organisers hotline at 6220 8180 for any enquiries.
