How much would you pay for a model?

I would NEVER pay a model for a photoshoot. Normally the client would pay the models for advertising purposes. Those who pay for model shoot organize by various organisers on CS should understand the models (good or average) have earn more than enough liao.
In fact those who paid model shoots should not give any photos to the models at all. Whether is cheap or expensive shoots, nothing is free in this world.
I have seen and heard from some of my model friends that there are many suckers (photographers who paid for a model shoot) who gives out photos to models freely. Man.....this way the models are making money both directions. Guys, those are just models.......don't get charm by them because they are pretty, hot and sexy.
I know working and fulltime photographers guard their work closely as this is part of their income. If a model wants any photo, they will have to pay for it. (this is always the BEST option)
If you want to give them, make sure you have a watermark embedded on the photos is big enough with your email or website address. At least the audience know it's your work and may look for you for additional services. Everything has to be balance and work both ways.

The part in bold is well said - not sure why this is done, and the funny thing is some models even EXPECT to be given photos after a shoot 
I do note that there are some accounts of advertising agencies hiring models, and then giving them photos of the shoots after that - that is often an example cited to these photographers to entice them to give photographs.

I think its a vicious cycle...free photographers..free models...its hard for anyone to make a decent living.
My suggestion is for you to book your models from the agencies and you can cast to select the ones that best suit your needs and have the ability to deliver. However, if you really need free test shoots, you got to support the models/agencies in other commercial projects so a meaningful and long lasting relationship can be established to get free test shoot models. You cant expect them to support you for free forever ma...
Its a lot easier to get a good folio from models in a agency. Attached a few for you to enquire. A half day(4 hours) private portfolio shoot range from $100-$500. Some of the agencies like carries/phantom/Ave has its own in-house production team of fashion stylist/makeup/hair and you can arrange a package deal with them.

With regards to freelance models, its really a touch and go. You cant find really good ones unless they have done a multitude of jobs and shoots and have tons of experiences.
I will pass you a list of very good freelancers but their rates are almost the same as getting girls from the agency. Let me know if you need help on that

Throw you a question. So do the models represented the agencies that you mentioned above would asked for any of their photos from the photographers?
I know some of them (the top models) couldn't care less but those who are quite new would sometimes ask if they can have some of the photos taken by us?.
I have the same situation with you. I dont pay for models to shoot unless its a commercial project. Sometimes we do give them a lower res copies of the editorial/advertorial/ad pic out of good will (of course they must be nice to work with and only when they ask nicely)
As for the testshoots, we do get request from agencies/ Fashion label to testshoot their models/ clothes but we dont really have the time nowadays. Have pass such lobangs to emerging photographers in Clubsnap to link up with the agencies to testshoot with them. So far its encouraging to see them progress and starting to pitch for commercial projects with the experience and knowledge gained from those testshoots and of course a wonderful commercial grade lifestyle and fashion portfolio.
As for those models which I helped fellow photographers arranged from agencies for private and portfolio shoots (paid ones)...there is no need to give photos to the models at all unless out of goodwill. Most wont ask at all (95% of the time)

This has been happening for a very long time liao. Just that some photographers will deny they actually gave a complete set to them.
I just hope there is less or no suckers to give them (the models) freely because they are pretty. Cherish your creation and be proud of it. Every frame you take is very precious.
Give an exmaple to some newbies:
You pay them and give them photos. They take the photos you have taken and show to clients. Client impress with model's portfolio and hire them. Client pay them money and you get zero cents. Part of the model's earning comes from the portfolio. Why is that so? Cause when I hunt for models, I will need to see their portfolio. I can't possible ask 100 models to go for the audition in my studio. I will ask 10 of the best from the hundred that I pick from their comcards.
So your work is very important to any models?
Do you want your work to be recognize and be paid for it?
If your answers for the above 2 question is YES, then stop giving free photos to them. Sell to them. They don't want to buy, then just be it. If they are desperate for new portfolio, then they will come back to you. Model's portfolio have to be updated 3-4 months once. Some models do it every month.

I've not given out any photos to models b4 as they have nvr asked anyway, but I was juz thinking tt if they were to ask from me, I will "ee tze, ee tze" give them some low res ones. Is this acceptable? :dunno:
To them low res sometimes is good enough for them to showcase their work. So it's always best not to give any out lor. It's still up to each and every individual. We can only say so much. It's up to them to control their habit in falling suckers to pretty and cute models.:bsmilie:
There seems to be a lot of antagonism and frustration from some parties here.. Look, if you pay for a model, that's because you think she's worth it. If it turned out otherwise, learn the lesson and don't pay for her next time. Some people are worth it, some are not-- move on. As to whether giving out pixs is a sucker's behaviour, that's another personal choice, and I'm quite sure there are non-suckers among those who give pix.
The photographic community is no longer just pros. Some people out there just wanna use photography as a networking tool. Since there are more casual photog, naturally the demand for casual models are greater, and we hear more of these tales here in CS than how the true pros work.
dont really get your point here on working/surfing CS on company time, although my main intent in the whole previous post i made was to address an issue whether modelling or photography is being exploited as a source of "easy" secondary revenue.
and the gripes of many TFCD shooters who pay for models etc, or models for other functions, events, advertisements, whether the model they are shooting, is one that lives up to their expectations, or just simply someone who wants to make a quick buck.
I generally do not pay my models. For TFCD/TFP, I also do not data dump all the pictures, I only give a few of the good ones. I do not believe giving the models any pictures that I do not want to show in my portfolio.
They justify the rate based on what the photographers are willing to pay. No one forces anyone. Willing buyer, willing seller. If the model can deliver, then whatever rates charged is not too high. If the model cannot deliver, free is too high.
Yes it does. If they are experienced, I have no interested if they have any training or not as long as they deliver, and has a pretty face and figure, they will charge even more. Training you asked. Are we to a point we demand certificates from models before we hire them?
If they cannot pose to save their lives, why are you paying them? If you are paying them, why did you give them any pictures? If the picture are so bad, why did you give them to the models.
For TFCD/TFP models, I generally have to guide and direct the entire shoot. I will have to make sure they deliver. If I am paying, and the model cannot pose to save her life, I will call off the shoot. And I will NOT pay.
Again, paying is usually after the shoot. If they do not deliver, why are you paying.
Just like any other jobs, any other professions, do not deliver, do not get paid.

If I pay, model has no choice but to deliver within the agreed boundaries.
If it's a TFCD/TFP, how else can it be if it's a not a collaborative process. How can you expect anything less.
If one does a simple calculation on those CS organised photoshoots, it appears to be very profitable for the models (say est $60 x 18 shooters for 3 hrs = $1080 x 3 models) but in fact, most of us know that the models are getting only about $150 each for their job and most of the income goes to the organisers. In this case, about $630 for the organiser vs $450 for the 3 models. I dont think it is a lot of money for the model but really a good income for the part-time organiser ....:think: Apology if my sum is wrong.

4. A model doing sexy(as in showing as much skin as in bikini or lingerie) fashion shoot, vs bikini shoot vs lingerie shoot?
5. A part-time model (say a student) vs another part-time model (say a SIA girl)?

The one that can deliver the image should command the higher rate.
However, most of the time, it's the one with seemingly a "bigger" name will get more. The SIA girl will def get more from the photog than the student. The worse case is the pagent winners. After they have won something very minor, rates sky rocketed. My reaction is simple, good luck.
