What the purpose of using the Hood on a WA Lens? and using a Polarizing filter, will it cause the pictures to be underexposure? what the different between a Polarizing and circula rpolarizing filter. i want to get 1 filter for multi-event like outdoors landscape shoot and low light area like the shooting the skyscaper at night.

hood cuts down the flare,
polarizing filters reduce the reflection of a smooth non metallic surface, like water or glass.
if ur exposure is not taken thru the lens, which ur 350D is,
polarizer will cause under expose pics.

difference between linear n circular polarizer,
well, ur AF can't work with the former.

always put the hood on because it can prevent scratches from bumps. :)

there are so many filters, each has different purpose. There is no one filter for multipuroses.
UV filters - mainly for protection of your lens
Cir-pol filters - use in landscape to enhance the blue sky or to reduce reflection
cross/star filters - lets you have star burst for lights (mainly for night shots)

As with all hoods, to cut off the stray lights from the image area. These days, a second application is to protect the front element from damage.

A linear polariser cuts off polarising light from a single plane. This does not work well with the modern auto-focusing system as such, we are advised to use circular polarisers which will work with the AF systems. The linear polariser can still be used for the old manual cameras.

The general filter is the UV or protective filter, but it does not give you any special effects. Others as mentioned have specific purposes, go read up more...

Make your lens feel nicer la, petal design so nice. ;p

CPL also help to make the color especially blue sky look more saturated :)
