Need tips and advice from anyone who's been there recently. Planning a trip with gf entirely by ourselves with no agencies/middleman. Questions I have are:

1)Jomtien or Pattaya area? Looking for quite time but not TOO quiet. Are there boats taking us to offshore islands from Jomiten itself?

2)More importantly. Hotel recommendations in Jomtien/Pattaya budget $50-$80 a night?

3)Are the beaches there even worth spending 2 nights there?

Thanks in advance!!! Really appreciate it...

Regards

I went there free and easy as well. hmm, we stayed in a guest house. A run down one. If you and your gf dont mind, why bother spending on accomodation when you can spend all you want on food and shopping and also entertainment?

The beach isnt as fantastic as gold coast but the water rides are romantically fun.

Just have a good time.

And what guest house was that??

i went there in december 2006 with some friends.

well...what can i say...

in the day it's quite a beautiful beach town. the water wasn't exactly clear, but then we didn't go to the islands so i'm not sure what it's like further out. the seafood is plentiful and reasonably priced.

at night...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............................it was very very seedy with lots of 'go-go' bars and people trying to get you to see their 'fvcking shows'. tho don't let this deter you. it was a very good experience and it opened my eyes to a lot of things. then again, as a couple you may not get such reception as we were a bunch of six non-local guys.

oh yeah, massages are good and cheap too!

we stayed at this hotel that looked like a ship from the outside. A-One or something? i can't remember how much it was per night tho...

edit:
don't get me wrong, i still had a huge amount of fun there. one of the most memorable parts of my six weeks touring around Asia.
