I don't think that this lens would suit you on low light condition as it has a variable aperture 3.5-5.6...might consider getting a lens that is design for low light condition...

just an opinion from a newbie...

currently I own an AF 50mm f/1.8D. It does gives me the quality I wanted.
and takin pictures indoor wif tis lense is not too bad ... ;)
But while out door I need a zoom lense like the 18-200mm. Im no hardcore.
most of my pix I took were during night time, in / out doors ...

I wouldn't suggest getting this lens either since the 5.6 is not good enough especially when you're shooting so much night and indoor shoots. a more dedicated one i propose but the cost is the problem..just like me i cant afford :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

just got a copy of the 18-200VR from TK yesterday :):)
v happy with the focal range and sharpness (not that great but quite good for a superzoom), but not still not that great for indoor shots.

i'd recommend a faster lens..

Bros & Sis ... when shooting indoors, u'all prefer
with or without flash?

the VR is suprisingly good when you hand hold in doors for 1/2 and 1/4th second. if you are snapping at 18mm, f3.5 i dont see why you cant produce a sharp image in doors with the vr aiding you on the longer exposure.

else you might neeed a faster lense.. if you want wider and slightly faster shutters coupled to that

this photo was taken indoors ... lense AF 50mm f/1.8D.
please give some comments ... thanks

 like the eyes on the train. :)

thanks crocs! ... tis pix was taken during night time with less light.
he's soo crazy bout trains ...

Lighting looks good. What aperture settings?

Anyway we had OT from 18-200 to 50mm.

F/1.8 , S /200 ('M' mode with flash will set 'S' to 200 automaticly)
exposure set +5
Using 1 ply of tissue, place it front of camera flash. Shoot pix ... :)

i think 50mm f1.8 or f1.4 would do u good

how bout if Im takin pic outdoors, neeeed 1 zoom lense though ... :dunno:
another reason, to beat 7% GST ...

You're looking for a fast, zoom lens.

What's your budget like?

Though aperture is only 3.5, but with VR, maybe can shoot lower shutter, say 1/8, f3.5

I agree, Harry. I can shoot at 1/8 at 18mm with f/3.5 with VR ON.

A key point to note, that many in this thread have already noted, is that your hand may be stable at 1/8s, but the kid will not be totally still at 1/8s.

This is why VR can never be a substitute for fast lenses.
