Back to the point, since you say chemical and PS, so really cannot shoot with piping hot food to capture the smoke?:( Thanks

not entirely true....

there is another alternative
but i suggest u shoot behind acrylic sheet.

for food cooked over a grill, turn up the heat and drip some oil and let it smoke...

later the oil splatter on to yr D2x or 1ds3

not much chance of that happening if you know how to plan your shot..
i know u are a pro. i am just suggesting those options and concerns. if u already are well aware of it, there is no need to prove it to me.

Speaking about enhancing steam, a simple solution, use a darker background at the upper end ie above the food. This can be created by using shadows.

Using shadows..? Care to give an example of a setup that does that.. :)

Hi,

Anyone has any advise on how to capture piping hot food with steam spout out? I see those food pics with smoke in the foodcourt are very fake......

TIA:)

Make sure the steam fogs up your filter first?

make sure your food is hot, take the picture of it in a very cold aircon room.

with adequate condensation you can visualize steam much better.
