Ministers' salary raise is out!

I am just suprised that the thread has not been locked and allowed to carry on till.... now.... Tsk tsk

I have left this thread alone simply because I agree that everyone has their views and they have a right to voice what they think. All that we ask for that we show some form of responsibility in what we say and of course, look at the bigger picture when it comes to this issue.

We do have a lot of armchair critics and a lot of them all seem against this pay raise but i urge you to consider very carefully. Our MM or SM will be paid about $3M after this revision but is it honestly too much to ask for leaders who have guided this country through it's infancy and to its current stage of growth?

In a society, there will always be a gap between the haves and the have-nots. Now it would be so easy to vent and voice your frustration against a seemingly elite group of people who get better pay but one should also take a step back and put things into perspective.

This is a meritocracy. So should you want to enjoy the perks and pay that you believe you deserve, then it would make sense to work for it. Or do you want to stay in a society where everything is provided free and given to you through social benefits such as "dough"?

Even when measures to control vehicle population, such as COE was introduced, everybody seemed so unhappy but has it occurred to anyone that if we didn't have such a measure in place, how over-crowded the roads will be? The roads are already congested and if we didn't have proper measures in place, it could have developed into a very unsightly problem.

Look around the region. Look around us. We have a system in place. Not a perfect one but it is working and one that is largely corruption free. Travel if you want to gain a broader perspective on the different forms of governance and see how we measure up. Measure our country by a fair yardstick and then you make your choice.

If you honestly think things are so bad here, then why not leave?

At the end of the day, it is imperative that we know the difference between the Country and the Government that runs it. It is even more important for us to know if we are complaining for the sake of venting or if we really have a pressing issue that we want a change in.

There are proper avenues of recourses that one can take. It is up to you, as a citizen to do something about something you have an issue with. Apathy and sitting there behind your screen while ranting away will not make a difference.

If really want to make a difference, then get off the chair, head outside and do something about it. There is an old story that I read which is a close reflection of how some might feel...

There was a story of a dog with mange. When it stayed in a cave it thought that the cave was uncomfortable and the dog itched all over. It moved to a forest and still it itched and was uncomfortable. It was never comfortable no matter where it went. This is because what was causing the itching was its skin condition, not the place it stayed."

So take a step back and be really honest with yourself. What are you really doing?

Meanwhile, may i gently remind one and all that this thread should not degenerate any further.

Thank you.

y are you so rigid?

Minimum tuition is period is 1 1/2 hrs? I myself used to teach tuition part time at 1 hour time slots ONLY. she's been in it for about close to wad 6 years already.

she teaches day and night....

really PEI FU her in this respect....but thats besides the point.
The parents nowadays are different from the parents last time. Kids smarter, parents also smarter and more demanding and more flippant.

If anything, if you think about it, it definitely will be making more sense for the tuition teacher to want to EXTEND the period of the slots as much as possible. Travel time is time where no money is earned, as most parents these days will go by hourly rate, and not per session. =)

Well-said. This is something I really believe in. I have seen a lot of complaints from Singaporeans in many online discussions, but I have seen not much action.

It's like saying that eh, I want to be a good photographer some day and then you just sit on your chair and never touch your camera.

You and me.

Are you RADIANT today?

Or are you SOME PIG? :bsmilie: :bsmilie: Oops. Wrong compliment!

Actually you, me and Sion... thousand apologies....

Now your turn to go to the wrong farm... :bsmilie:

If only I could get a tiny slice of that 'dough'......

Have you tried slicing dough? Don't work man, knife gets stuck in the middle somewhere...

i think most likely the only action is just soft whispers among the citizens...i doubt they take online flaming seriously. Only when the whispers gets louder, then one may see some pacifier line up in future. They tend to pre-emp when they smell trouble, and they know majority are easily satisfied and rather forgetful. :bsmilie:

So using my photo analogy, the population wants to improve in photography, but they fondle their DSLRs. When they start fondling the shutter release button, they realise that they are too lazy and give up. =D

is the present government doing such a good job to deserve such high pay? really?

or are we listening to the fairy tale they have spoon-fed us thru the years, that we can't think for ourselves.

without them, will we be maids to work in other countries? really.

have your own independent mind! stop reading the morning bible that has been push into your face! :sticktong

What actions are you expecting from normal citizens like me ???????

Go Meet the MP session and draft out plans for Singapore ?

If I am able to do that ? Can share wif me the 33% ? ;p

Ppl see the need to justify the increase. If not, DONT increase at all

its their general practise...when things dont work like they expected, the velvet comes off the iron fist. Do a little seasoning, then don the velvet again.

Same for animal abuse (as read in papers) like dogs, elephants, disobedient, owner slap, beat, cane till the animal listens to orders, but the animal will remember what the owner did. It's just all suppressed resentment. And its dangerous, they will unleash it when the right opportunity comes.

i hope chaos do not prevail at the wrong moment.

the RICH get RICHER and the POOR get POORER *SIGHZ*

singapore gonna become another CHINA or INDIA or INDONESIA

It would then depend what you mean by a good job and by what yardstick you are measuring our system by I guess. But again, thats your point of view.

Everyone is entitled to their point of views. This can be argued or discussed until the cows come home and there is no solution in sight. I have my own independent views which I have shared in my previous post.

So ask yourself, is this the best you can do? Complaining online or will you go out and do something about it? Will you write into the forum or to any publications and declare your unhappiness or dis-satisfaction? Or will you continue to air your grouses online and just stop there?

I know that they have done a lot of positive things. No government is perfect.

Everything seems sunny, if you ask me. Honestly the people who should be complaining will not be here. They have no computers, they have no time. So my question to those "whining" (yes, I'm sorry I have to use the word) is:

ARE YOU REALLY AS BADLY OFF AS YOU PAINT YOURSELF TO BE?

At 12 pm you are free to talk online!

Before we complain, sometimes it is best to think of all the good first, not for any reason, but to obtain a balanced view of the situation. Critique is easy to give out, but balanced critique is hard. And I wish I could see more of the latter, instead of just verbal diarrhea where logic is sorely lacking and emotion is bursting at the seams.

I like the fact that I can go shoot sunrise at 4-5 am in the morning, walk along the roads and the chance to get mugged is low.

I like the fact that I can go out on night photography expeditions with my camera hanging around my neck and I have relatively low fear for my life.

I like the fact that despite the distances in Singapore being so short compared elsewhere, I can easily get to one destination from another most of the time, unless it is really secluded.

I even like the fact that while I go out a lot, I have SELDOM (not entirely) seen people on the streets eating leftovers at hawker centre. Yes, it happens, but my friends in the countries which tend to criticize Singapore for its methods, etc.. Tell me that it happens almost EVERY meal there at the lower end eating places. And the people there are very much used to it.

There are many positive things, and I will not deny that there are negative as well. But think for yourself, whether YOU can make a difference, instead of sitting on your armchair and laughing away.. And perhaps you might say something different, or more importantly, DO something different.

Hmmm, I wonder what will happen to Singaporeans without their domestic helpers...

i don't have one and i appreciate NOT having one...
its more fun to do things yourself ;)

singapore gonna become another CHINA or INDIA or INDONESIA

Or USA, or UK, or Antartica, or Eskimoland.

Name me one place where the RICH get POORER and the POOR get RICHER. This is life. Welcome! :bsmilie: :bsmilie:
