convert to xR

Hi All,

got something to ask...
if i were to print some xR sizes, how should i edit my photos?
since those printing shop outlets go by xR, all i need to do is resize in the following formats. then save inside my sd-card, then pass to them.. let them wash it?
let say my memory card got all 640x480 pixels, when inserted into the machine, it will auto printed out as 3R?

3R (3.5"x5") 640 x 480 pixels 50kB - 120kB
4R (4"x6") 1024 x 768 pixels 100kB - 300kB
6R (6"x8") 1280 x 1024 pixels 200kB - 500kB
8R (8"x10") 1600 x 1200 pixels 400kB - 1000kB

I have not tried the printing shops before, but I would approach it by first choosing the "quality" of printout: whether you want 100dpi, 150dpi or 200dpi. E.g. if you want a 4R print at 200dpi, it means you need: (4"x200 x 6"x200) = 800x1200 = 960,000 pixels for your image file. You can work out the rest for the other xR resolutions.

I think nice photos need to be at least 150 dpi; if too low dpi your picture may turn out blocky. Hopefully someone with real info can correct me where I'm wrong
